That is extremely sad news. About 17 or so years ago visiting the (then larger) Nicholas Dattner showroom started my interest in woodwork. The guy and his work are ornaments to woodworking/cabinetmaking. I don't know any details but I suspect that the cost of producing his truly great work was just too much for the market to bear. I know I couldn't afford a table at $5-$10k. It was worth it just not really affordable. Hopefully the equipment will go to good homes; if I was in Melbourne I would go and probably shed a tear or two.

I can't recall the details right now, but he ran a few ads early last year saying that it was time to retire and that they were taking orders for the last production. I recall that this was before the financial crisis started in earnest.

Still, it is sad to see an enterprise disappear.
