Haven't read the article myself, but I've always admired the Rotex as my preferred sander for most circumstances. It's like an old friend.
It's definitely an aggressive abrader in Rot(ary) mode, but can be a bit of a handful sometimes... When I've tried sanding weatherboards up a ladder using 24g. paper the bitch bites! Ever been pulled off a ladder 12' up by a paper disc jamming between boards?
It's certainly much more controllable in Ex(zenter) mode.
I think that the Rotex is one tool that I really admire more each time I use it. It can rip & tear like a pit-bull if required, or polish to near mirror smoothness. It can be used on paint, timber, plaster, bare metal, (gently) curved bodywork, and grind, sand and polish about as well as a whole barrow load of other tools, all in the one tool.
I just don't think the reviewer used it for long enough, or in the variety of ways for which it was designed, before s/he formed an opinion.Sycophant to nobody!
