Default How to glue splinter guard

i have tried to take the old splinter guard off a 1400 guide rail.
i read that it was possible to rip it off with the adhesive attached using a hair dryer, but it was a complete disaster!
i have removed the black splinter guard, but the original adhesive remained on the guide rail. i have now removed all the adhesive too.

the obvious thing to do would be to buy a new splinter guard, but i am a tight fisted bugger! what type of adhesive can anyone recommend to reglue the old splinter guard to the rail.
i am thinking about using liquid nails or common silicone.

    any advice would be appreciated.

    cheers, justin.

Have you considered a contact adhesive like QuickGrip?

    hi justin.
Try some double sided tape you can buy it from office works. The tape it is only about 0.1mm thick so wont interfear with the thickness of the rubber its awesome

Actually you can pull the splinter guard off leaving the adhesive on the rail and re-stick the rubber back on where you want it. It works fairly well, if you can put pressure on the rubber the adhesive will stick a lot better.

Another really sticky tape is 'carpet tape' -it used to be sold by Selleys & Bear brands. It is a cloth based double sided tape intended to stick carpet to the floor in industrial sites.

You will have to cut it to width first - one suggestion I have seen is to use a mortise gauge with a knife blade (or a balsa strip cutter) while the tape is still on the roll.

You also do much the same thing with some brands of 'duct'/'duck' tape - if you pull it off the roll the wrong way the grey plastic covering comes off the cloth/glue layer (DAMHIK).

thanks bsrlee. i actually used a tube of clear roofing silicone that was in my garage. i told you i was a tight bugger!
i applied a very fine bead, and used four irwin quik grip clamps and a 2 metre spirit level to keep the rubber tight against the rail while the silicone hardened over night.
i also like the idea of the silicone being easier to clean up in the future.
the adhesive festool used originally is high quality but a pita to remove.
when i have to do this procedure in the future, i reckon the silicone will just peel off in one long strip.

i have used the saw and rail yesterday, and all is well again. re-cutting the splinter guard feels like having a brand new rail!
i would highly recommend this method to everybody, as long as you dont mind gluing and clamping over night.
    regards, justin.
