Default need help please report problems with Kapex to me read on...

hi I am Tijy and a newbie so hi. I posted a problem i had with the Kapex saw in a thread two days ago and to cut a long story short after 2 months and Festool unable to supply a Kapex that worked properly they Have refunded me the cash and some compensation! great news and I thought that was it. What i wasn't prepared for that in my passion to resolve my ongoing problems i thought it would be a good idea! to email the directors of Festool of the problems to try and jolly them up a bit afterall i am Dutch living in England and I kind of have an idea of what the German mentallity is like. How suprised was I today to be informed that 2 of the directors are actually flying over to my little home town in two days to discuss the problems with there machine I can't believe it. Ok I am only an hour away by plane so that helps. But still mighty impressed that the actualy seem to care that much like wow.. So the reason I am posting now is to invite any gripes that any owners of the Kapex may have so i can give the Germans a collective report of things they can improve hope you can all help. in the mean time I am going to iron my work pants lol

    thanks a lot

    Default Warranty

I'm not surprised. It has always been my experience when you buy really good stuff, and there is a problem, the earth seems to move in order to get the problem fixed in short order, and quite often when its out of warranty.

I can tell you, this sort of service would not come from GMC.

It's the old story, you pays yer money, you get what you pay for.

    Tijy,

There have been a couple glitches/suggestions over here, since you have important ears to bend.

-trimming a small piece off the end of the work has resulted several times in the offcut being flung with great force. The clearance insert in the base has been cracked on a friend's saw by one recoiling piece. Not sure what would resolve this. They may recommend a sacrificial fence.

-after a very heavy session of cutting hardwood (not using extraction), the spring that returns the blade guard filled with dust, preventing the guard from covering the blade in the upright position.

-although the power cable is easily coiled and accessed, it would be pretty great if it was a plug-it. While they're at it they can do this for the belt sander as well.

-ask them to make a thicknesser that is compatible with dust extraction

Otherwise tell them thanks and keep up the good work.
    Do nothing, stay ahead

Hello Tijy well yes my kapex seems to have a bit of flex Im not sure they can do anything about this as it cuts real well but you need to cut real easy on tilt and trench cutting. With trench cutting on wide pieces, it is easy to go deeper than the setting because of flexing. Im using recycled hard wood not like soft wood. But also some five ply. on tilt cutting it took some time adjusting the speed till I got almost perfect within 1mm Im not sure this is within tolerance or further adjustment can be done to my kapex.
The lazor was not set correctly.
Interesting you are dutch My father was from mierlo near helmond and einthoven and immingrated to Australia in the 50s to Perth so im aussie with dutch background.

with the money they are charging for the kapex you dam well want it to be cutting perfectly square and when doing compound angles and for
1700$$ there better not be any flex in the arm or whats the point you may as well go buy a makita the dewalt is pritty robust and accurrate for 1700$ you want it working perfect out of the box...

I haven't gone down the KAPEX route yet but do have the CMS and would like to make a few observations:

The user manuals are disappointing at best, given the quality of the tools, I would have thought the manuals would have been to the same high standard. I haven't been able to find any literature at all on the Rip Fence accessory for the CMS. Something along the lines of the manuals for the Liegh D4R would be a good Guide. I'm happy to assist in writing said manuals if they are interested.

A short power lead for connecting the tool in the CMS module would tidy the arrangement.

A zero clearance insert for the TS55 module would be handy.

A feather board attachment for the CMS would also help

Happy to discuss further, I will PM you if they would like my contact details.

Here in the US Festool does have users, Jerry Work and Rick Christopherson, write manuals for some of the tools. Contact Festool and see if they are interested.
