Default Joined the festool club - TS55

    G'day everyone,

I've just joined the festool club... picked up a TS55, with two 1400mm rails and 2 joiners and 2 clamps for the tidy sum of $999 from VEK tools at smithfield, I think it was a promotion, luckily I snagged the last one.

I'm using it to rip down an ikea kitchen and I love it, the guy in VEK told me about their festool freaks club, one guy apparently bought $5K worth of Festool stuff and then called back the next week it see if there was anything new released!!

    Cheers

I am sure you enjoy using your new purchase. Like me you will probably find that the chip and splinter rate with the supplied blade will be lower than what you may have been using, and when set up properly the accuracy in cutting is great.

Have you got any dust extraction? This makes the tool even more enjoyable and reduces clean up time greatly.

Not a single chip on the benchtop, the splinterguard also keeps the offcut chip free, what a great tool, I do have dust extraction which I agree is great.

    Welcome to the slippery slope!
What kind of clamps came with that deal?
Normal festool screw clamps or the lever clamps?
    Cheers, Justin.

The real challenge here is keping tabs on the CC now that you've justified the initial outlay on the Festool gear. It can get to be an exciting adventure with quality branded tools that usually perform to expectations.

Good luck have an enjoyable time with your Festools as we all do ...oh and welcome here in the Festool sector.

    cheers

Well done , the old joiner on the mk1 tracks sucked big time, I'm sure the double will be heaps better, ie.keep it straight

I use 1 joiner on the FS 1400/2 guide rails.
I commend the people who take the time to screw on 2 joiners.
It takes to long for me.

I sure hope Festool design a better joining system for the next generation plunge cut saws.
A toolless joiner would be perfect, I have lost count the number of times I have forgotten to bring a straight slotted screw driver with me to join the rails on site.

I keep a small screwdriver with my joiners so that I do not need to dive into the tool box. I am considering buying another pair of joiners and screwdriver to keep in the guide rail bag so that all the essentials are together when working on site, the only thing is the clamps will still be in the systainer with joiners, screwdriver and combination bevel. Also keep a pair of safety glasses in the box with the saw so I do not need to hunt for a pair when doing that quick cut.
    Cost of small screwdriver <$5.

the cost of a small screw driver is meaningless when you cant find the bugger!

this is a minor whinge, but i want perfection when i pay a premium for a product.

I was ripping a board today using my circular saw and a straight edge- it was such a pain. I was then thinking of how much more of a pain it will be when I get my timber for my bench (rough sawn/slabs). Ill need to rip atleast one straight edge on about 20+ cuts so it's not a mission to run through the jointer.

I was tempted to go out and buy a festool guide rail saw. I did some research and had a look at the 2400mm guide rails - $450

Still tempted though .... Anyone got a 2400mm guide rail cheaper than $450?

Not 'cheaper' per say Andy , but a better deal atleast, we neared to cut 3 m lengths frequently so it was a smart move (we thought) to buy the 5 m track and cut it to 3.1 m / 1.9, but it's the mk 1

I just received my FS 3000/2 (3 metres) rail for $500 inc G.S.T. last week.
I highly recommend you grab the 2400mm rail when Festool are having this accessory sale now.

    I agree with Darren.
Not cheap, but much better than paying the RRP$630.

I guess a lot of Festool's stock was sitting in a warehouse collecting dust.
So they had to reduce the prices to get rid of it.

I am very happy with the 3 metre rail. No more joining rails for this little vegemite!

    Justin.
