    Waldo

On the competition loose tenon stock issue Carbatec do sell a version slightly cheaper than Festool. It is sold in "jars" and is in their latest catalogue.

I now make my own and this is especially useful as you can make larger ones than those made commercially to fit the mortices made on the 2+ setting as well as making them so they fit well, unlike most of the festool ones that have to be hammered in.

    G'day Mat,

yep, I bought two of those jars in the larger sizes. LGS also showed me a very simple way to make and shape my own tennons, which will see me getting a dremel and its little router table thing.
I make things, I just take a long time.

Just for the Record, I Plino, did not say this.

Been very happy with my Domino but today had a bit bugger up.

The 5mm bit which has done only 70-80 odd cuts chipped its end off in kwila, long grain not end grain. Double checked, new wood, no nails or staples. Been very aware of not forcing bit and allowing it work at its own pace.

Not sure if this is going to be an on-going problem or a one off, hope its the later.

Must be the later. You should not expect issues with only 80 cuts. The other day I plunged a 6mm domino cutter into staples (within a modern door) with no chipping I can see or deterioration in subsequent mortises. But I think I was lucky.

Fully agree with Anthony's comment. Are you using a dust extractor with your Domino?

Sure am, another thing I love about the Domino is how the dust extraction actually extracts all the dust, not a chip in sight.

    Hi Cruzi,

Yeah - the extraction is pretty near perfect with the Domino.

If you think the bit was faulty - discuss it with your dealer.

Don't know if I can prove the bit was faulty, but a full 4mm broke off the end of it.

It is a tough one when it comes to bits, blades and other consumables - whats a manufacturing fault, what's misuse, what's fair wear and tear. But I would be discussing it with them all the same. 80 plunges is practically nothing if the wood did not contain a foreign object.

This relies on the dealers goodwill, I can say I've only done 80 odd cuts, I can say I've not hit a foreign object, but cannot produce any proof to back up either. Photos of what its been used for are no help, apart from dominos being hidden, how does the dealer know that is all that was done.

Using the spare cutter now (from the bit set), 12 cuts later and no probs

You are right, it all depends on how well your dealer knows you and and visa versa.
