    Default Kapex Insert

Well just found this bit of WA Blackbutt in the shed after doing some cleaning out this afternoon.

Damn thing was nearly the perfect fit for the kapex without even touching it aside from rounding over the corners

    cheers
    Brad

    Very nice Brad.

What were Festool engineers thinking when choosing black plastic?

Yeah, I discovered - after a few dozen cuts - that the el cheapo plastic insert was buckled and causing ever so slightly out of square end cuts. The insert was too long causing it to buckle up. So I tossed it in the bin and made my own from 6mm Marine 5 ply. Wonder if I could get a pro-rata refund .
Here's my effort. Much improved cutting.

Finished with Organoil Hard Burnishing oil.

Hmmm? I wonder how many insert replacements will take place because of this excellent work.

This is known problem, I rang festool and they sent out a new one, that works much better.

    Default Me Too

I had noticed that my Kapex insert was also buckled - read this thread and emailed Festool who had a replacement to me within 24 hours. Fantastic service and product support and it's well worth saying how good Festool is when they step up to the plate as they diod with me. It also goes to show what a valuable resource this Forum is too. Thanks to all.

I've not compared them alongside each other so I can't be sure. They are still black plastic, but I was advised by Festool that they are made from different material now. Time will tell... if it buckles again I'm opting for the timber insert.
