    Default MFK Collet Issues

    Hi WWF,

Recently aquired a second hand MFK700 for a reasonable (not great) price.

Just went to use it and it appears to have 2x 8mm collets and no 6mm collet. The previous owner had an OFK as well so I am guessing they got mixed up.

Just looked at the replacement cost ($90) and fell off my chair.

Is there anyway to get the 8mm to hold 6mm bits?

Go back to the original owner, I'm sure that he is missing an 8 mm collet and would like to swap.

Sent him a message but no reply. He was also selling the OFK so suspect it is game over

You can get collet shank adaptors (I've bought stuff from adam's bits - http://endmill.com.au/collet-shank-adaptor/ and had good service). I never feel totally safe when using them though...

I can't see an 8mm to 6mm collet adaptor on that page. You can get one here though - High Precision Adapter collet shank CNC router tool Adapters holder 12.7mm change to 6.35mm/ 8 6.35/ 8 6/ 12 8mm 6mm-in Milling Cutter from Tools on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

Not up on festool but is it 6mm or 1/4” or can it use both? I would have thought 1/4” would be more versatile.

I was actually after 1/4”, 6.35mm. Just being lazy and because until yesterday I didnt realise there was an actual 6mm option

Why not say 1/4" then, saves confusion. 6mm is one of the most common size of endmills. I remember asking for some 1/4" UNC bolts at the local nut and bolt place once, I wanted them to use with some loxin's that were pre-existing in a brick wall. Didn't realise until I was on the job that he'd sold me M6 without telling me. One of the young guys who thought he knew better than me. I always ask for exactly what I want for a reason.
