Thread: Mft3 table saw conversion kit

It's certainly a clever piece of design. I particularly like the height winder. Though dare I say it goes some way to making it look like a Triton workcenter!

I thought part of the reason for its creation was that the CMS extention would not/could not be made available in the US?

Having said that, I wonder if the guide extension for the MFT3 are available here? I can't find anything on the Aus Festool website....

a very innovative idea, there is also the festool cms modules available that add onto the side of your mft to allow you to convert to a router table,table saw, jigsaw table,sander table

The CMS extension table seems to make more sense to me, you can then use any of the CMS inserts. I think this invention in the US has come about because the CMS system is not available there.

I'm waiting for delivery of the extension table with the insert for the OF1400 & the insert for the TS55 + sliding table! I'll loose no table area as these fit into the extension & are of Festool's normal high quality build. The OF insert is a great bit of kit & I can't imagine a retro fit router insert coming close.

As a matter of interest there was a router insert top designed for the MFT 1080 which replaced the top completely. It was sold in the US by a major manufacturer & was priced quite highly, not a patch on the CMS OF in my opinion. Yet again for the US market where the CMS is not available, they have little choice!

Likewise. Still it's pretty impressive what someone can come up with in his shed. Then with a little feedback from a forum, turn it into a saleable product.

I still wouldn't be keen cutting a hole in my MFT top though!

I think it is an excellent solution to the problem the North Americans have to not having access to the CMS components.

Originally as the developer was building it, I was dubious, as safety features like the guard were not in the original design. But these have been included now and it looks to be a neat solution for NA users.

Personally I think I would find it a bit restrictive. Not for sawing as such, but restricting the usability of the MFT3 surface area. There is never enough space as it is on the surface of the MFT3 s it is - or maybe I am less organised than many.

I even find adding the CMS-VL extension to the MFT3 reduces MFT3 working area a little. Rather than feeling free to hand work over the edge of the MFT3 and saw it with abandon, having a non-sacrificial surface right next to it means I have to purposely keep thing from the edge to avoid accidents. Thus reducing practical MFT3 surface area a little.

I really think the best solution (to take advantage of a TS55 saw already owned) is a standalone CMS and saw module in it. But the NA users don't have this option, so this new user development is cool for them.

i have sold both of my old tablesaws and i am looking at different options now.
when i get my next big kitchen contract, i will look seriously at the cms module for the MFT3 (495512).

Recently at the working with woodshow festool was showcasing the cms/mft3 modular system. They were making bread boards using the router module the table saw module & the jigsaw module as a scroll saw. It worked out really well we ended up selling 15+ modules in different configerations. With most of them we also sold the ripfence from the cs70 so they could rip down wider peices.....it allows you to set the rip fence wider than you would be able to if you were using the standard cms or precisio models.

Out of the 15 that bought this system only approx 5 were taking them to site, the advantage of this system is that it does come apart easily to transport & with the legs folding under it doesnt take up much space
