    Default OF1400 - No Manual?

just dropped a large sum of money on a OF1400 and was surprised that there is no manual?

is this right? i also dropped another $100.00 on the guiderail adapter and it has no instructions?

pretty lousy if you ask me, however, its a damn quiet little machine thats for sure.

There should of been a warranty registration form in the box too, if not go to Festool Power Tools, Professional premium German power tools for woodworking, for painters, for automotive and for boat builders and renovators / maintenance to register, most people forget so they only get standard 1 year warranty

used it yesterday, totally overrated for what it is. Sorry, i couldn't help be be disappointed that i dropped $1100.00 on it and the guide rail adapter.

It is quiet, it does plunge nicely, but i don't think its worth $500.00 more than its competitors. The dust extraction, one of the main features for which i bought it for, works ok, but not as great as the video's on youtube show.

i guess time will tell, but one thing is for certain, i wont be buying anymore festool gear.

Well that's a shame it's not knocking your socks off yet.

Dust extraction should definitely be as good as the videos, do you have the chip deflector fitted under the base for edge routing?

Have you seen this user guide yet? Although commissioned by Festool USA, it's completely written by a woodworker and OF 1400 owner. It's a great document walking through the features of the router and more importantly all the bits and pieces and how to use them to best effect.

As you say, only time will tell if you like the OF 1400, but I'm sure a few OF 1400 users will jump onto this thread and suggest some other very positive aspects of the router and things to try, especially things unique to this router other routers can't do.

Yes mate, i did find that link, straight after i posted my original post

I will be giving it a workout shortly, and hopefully have a different opinion after that. I do like the way the chip deflector clips to the baseplate, although you need to "reverse" the work direction when it comes to corners
of the work piece to avoid getting hung up on the corner. no big deal.

the detachable cord was a great idea, until i packed the router and bits up and put away the systainer, to find the cord still on my work bench

i really really like the noise level it generates. its around the level of an electric drill, which is a big thing.

Regarding the chip deflector, you should be able to continue around corners and the deflector not interfere, if you find you do get interference, the deflector has two impressions on it for trimming it down. Start by cutting one, and if still an issue, cut the other. I've found I don't need to cut them as there's no issues, but I have cut down my OF1010 equivalent in the past.

Yes, the noise level is great - also I love the way the router can be started and you barely have to hold onto it the soft-start is so good.

One thing I find, when routing around corners, is to use the locking know as a virtual pivot point, always ensuring it's over the the workpiece and the handle outside the workpiece. Did that make sense?

I have some ali channel / LED lights i am rebating into overhead cabinets tonight, so i will give that a go.

The Extractor Vac got a new bag put on yesterday too, so i will see if that improves on the extraction rates, compared to last time.

    Thanks
