    Default Qf 2200

Has anyone by chance upgraded from some brand of 3hp router to the QF 2200 and no regrets. Considering the big price difference I’m curious if others have taken the plunge and shelled out the huge amount to buy one. I own a Scheer HM 18 which is simply unstoppable but a real pain to set up. I don’t need a QF 2200 at all. I just like them, however, they are seriously expensive compared to something like a Makita 3 hp router.

well, if you think about the resale value of the Festool its not that expensive then.

I have OF1010, and OF2200, OF2200 does everything 1010 cant do, anything bigger than OF2200 can handle, I use my spindle moulder.

I havnt used any other router though

If wood working is only a hobby, then I agree OF2200 is a tad expensive...

Thanks Albert, I was very recently in a store where they had a base plate kit in a sustainer for $695.00 it’s now being discussed if it was old stock or wrongly priced. Judging by the dust I would guess it was old stock so I’m waiting for a call back. Anyway thanks for replying. Like you I have a few routers and wouldn’t sell any of them. So glad you have a spindle Moulder as I have been looking for SCM 150...they are not common at all and as you know they have a very good top speed and tilting arbor. By chance do you have a power feeder on you spindle Moulder and if you do what reasons did you choose the one you did. Thanks for replying.

The accessories on the OF2200 is as expensive as the router itself.

my current spindle moulder is a pain to setup and I dont touch it that often.

SCM makes very good spindle moulder, I was very tempted to import a second hand spindle moulder from Europe but I end up indent a new Ti145 with electro spindle, programmable, automated fence/tilt/height and side tenon table from SCM with local SCM agent.

I have a Comatic variable speed feeder, 2 good thing about the Comatic variable speed feeder is that you change speed by pressing a button, and you can change the feeder head from vertical to horizontal in under 10 seconds, one man, no heavy lifting.

Sounds a great system...expensive but great..that power feeder you have sounds like the ones I looked at online from Comatic. Roughly similar price to the QF2200 and the base plate system. The SCM 150 isn’t an easy find second hand in Aust so I can imagine in NZ it would even harder. And as I’m a backyard woodworker these days the spindle Moulder tooling as you would know can be really expensive.

yes it is expensive and how I looked at it is that I like wood working, this is my hobby and also generates income, therefore I decided to take the leap and put down some very serious money on the spindle moulder. The toolings are expensive but they often will last a lifetime. I have never regretted buying expensive machinery and I always regretted not getting it earlier, or bought cheaper machines.
