    Default Quandry (domino v lens)

I've saved up a little nestegg

and I can probably purchase one or other of these two items

    festool-domino-joining-machine-set-df-500-q-set.jpg EF 70-200.jpg

    a Festool Domino DF 500 or a Canon EF 70-200 mm f/2.8 L USM

But I wonder which I will get the most use and enjoyment out of ...

(and yes I've also posted on the photographic forum)
    regards

Tricky indeed. Domino is nice... f2.8 at 200mm is nice also. If it was not a constant f2.8 lens I'd definitely say go for the Domino.

I have the both mine is Nikon an both are nice to have (when you got 2 hobbies) with the cost of not going holiday for some times, if I was going to do it again I would buy f4 instead of f2.8, half the price and half of weight

Give yourself a time value as where you would be with either one with usage as a marker as well as resaleable option should the usage change.
I also use both FX cameras/lenses but would not be without my WW hobby ,this may change with advancing years whereby my photography probably won't.

    Cheers

What a dilemma. I'm lucky enough to have both. I love the f2.8 70-200 II IS USM. It is constant f2.8 throughout the zoom. It's very heavy, but produces wonderful shots. Particularly good for sports photography. The domino is equally wonderful. I guess the choice comes down to which you would use more often.

    good luck with the decision.

I hear the half the weight argument but I really want it for indoor sports where the lighting is on the dim side

I commonly carry around a 100 - 400 for outdoor sports and it's a tad over 1.5kg and this 70 - 200 supposedly weighs about 1.3 so might not be a major issue but I'm not getting any younger. I see the f4 weighs about 700g

    Hi Nick
I don't know what camera you got but I think for some one going to buy a professional f2.8 lens must have a dissent camera body so you can gain one stop with ISO setting
basically with the price of f2.8 you can buy your Domino and f4 lens, I am around your age with some good photography gear but I find out when have time for my self I like to be in the shed than on the field
but no one can tell you more than your self which of those give you more satisfaction to use and make things with them
    Regards
    Mehrdad

Yes Mehrdad, but also half the quality, I fear. A good rule of thumb is the faster the lens then usually the better the overall quality (aspheric elements, chromatic corrections etc - especially with L Series lenses).

Here's some reviews that Nick can knock himself out with:

(I haven't read any of them).

hmm that brings the f4 IS into the mix as a possible/probable viable alternative
