Default Not bad this Festo stuff...

Hi from the land of sauerkraut and lederhosen (and Festool)!

Those who know me will tell you I have one of the largest collections of Metabo tools on the planet - and that I'm prone to exageration from time to time.

Anyways, I snapped up this Festool battery drill with charger, 2 batteries and systainer a while back for 90 Euro. That's about 150 Aussi? Stripped her down - as I do with all the second hand stuff I buy - and had a peek. I know I know - I'm a perverted voyeur but I just can't help meself...

Here's a few pics of the saucey little minx naked:

    Attachment 68096 Attachment 68097 Attachment 68098 Attachment 68099 Attachment 68100 Attachment 68101 Attachment 68102

All in all not a bad piece of kit... Still reckon my old BEAT Metabos would kick it's butt though... Is thems there fighting words?

    Damien

    Hi Damien,

Up to Your old tricks again eh..pulling the tools apart
Being in Germany, You must see a fair amount of festo?
I've heard on the grape vine a lot of the German tradesmen prefer the old Festo gear to the newer Festool.
You heard anything about it mate?
Lucky bugger, access to all those tools floating around on ebay
    cheers!

Thanks for sharing those pics Damien. They remind me of a German car magazine, that does that to the cars they used for their durability tests. (after they put 100 000 km on them).

I wouldn't dare doing it myself to any of the tools I own and want to use again afterwards. (I 'm not that good at putting it back together, and I'm very good at losing little pieces) I only screw them open after warranty when there's a broken cable or stuck or worn brushes. (The good old " If it ain't broken, don't fix it" motto)

Gudday mate! How's the winter over there? Bloody brilliant here at the moment. Blue skies and sunshine, powder snow in the alps which are half an hour away... Luverly!

Can't really comment on old versus new 'cause I don't have any of their kit. The stuff's good but it's not infailible. The variable speed on the trigger of the battery drill is stuffed. I pulled it down - lots of minute parts in there - and overhauled it but to no avail. I've got Metabos for example, that are a lot older and their triggers are the duck's nuts.

In addition to the decent quality, I think Festool's rep can be traced back to three important factors:
    • Its sanders
    • Precision
    • The fact it continues to innovate
Nice stuff if you can afford it...

Grüße nach Belgium! There is another ancient motto which I think comes from Plato - which I will now loosely translate from Greek: 'If you snap something up in eBay 2nd hand, pull it down and overhaul it to ensure you know what you're working with. Especially if it spins really fast.'

Who am I to argue with one of history's wisest men?
