    Default Router milling depth accuracy.

I have a Dewalt 625 router and in the past I've had a few issues getting the right milling depth set to the accuracy I'd like. I'd often have to run a few practice cuts and then measure the depth of the cut and adjust it as required.

I did some practice cuts on my OF 1400 router and what a difference. The accuracy of the ruler and the fine adjustment offered by the dial was absolutely amazing. I tried setting a cut to 7.3mm using the instructions in the OF 1400's manual. When I measured it with my depth gauge, it was totally bang on the money.

I also used the guide fence attachment and once I adjusted the bolts to eliminate the slop I did some practice fluting-style cuts. Right throughout the length of the cuts the accuracy of the spacing was as near perfect as I could make it. For sure, like-for-like, I can't compare the output of the 1400w motor to the 2000w Dewalt motor but given the saving in weight between the two the Festool router was far more nimble than my Dewalt. I'll keep the 625 as a spare and the winner is...Festool.

I am that Anthony. It's not just the quality of the cuts and plunging that makes the tools work so well but the way they work. The router for example takes about two seconds to stop. As a safety issue, the stopping time is important to me. I'm a bit anal in the sense that I contemplate safety and a back-out plan before I switch any tool on. The Festool approach to ergonomics, safety, function and quality is something I've known about for a long time but until I was given her surprise gifts, I doubt I'd ever have experienced it otherwise. That plunge saw is another example. I've used circular saws before but never have I used one so sweet as the Festool. It's not just the shock of the new that makes the difference to me, it's the quality that's built-in and you get that by default with these tools.

Once I've finished the built-in cupboards in our bedroom there is another set to do in the spare room and then there are others things to do like bookshelves and so on. She also just barked at me that she wants some window boxes. Cool! This is one time I don't have any problems with her honey-do list.
