Default Splinter guard on 1400 guide rail

I purchased 2 of the 1400guide rails and noticed that the splinter guards already fitted is a clear colour instead of the black ones on the photos that abound. Does anyone know if this is a change or can the black ones still be obtained? I think that lining up marks with the clear ones will be more difficult.

hi lesmeyer, i am sorry to hear that you dont like these, i have read on the fog website that these are the latest and greatest upgrade for the rails.

    1. the semi transparent material provides improved visibility for alignment with marks.
    2. the new material is more robust and rigid.
    3. the new adhesive has been used to make removal easier, without residue.

my splinterguards are stuffed from using a festool rip blade, because as we all know, there is a difference with festool blade thicknesses.
i am looking forward to buying the clear splinterguards, maybe you can give us a small review on the new improved splinterguards.

i have also read with regards to the different thickness in festool blades, that a good idea is to have 800mm to 1400mm guide rails for crosscutting/universal festool blade and a 2.4metre to 3 metre rail for ripping/panther blade.
this would mean crosscutting and ripping blades would be specific for each rail.
no more stuff ups with the splinterguards, happy days!
but i am still struggling with having to pay $641 for a 3 metre rail!

    regards, justin.

Justin, my concern is getting the edge of something transparent to line up with a pencil mark. Maybe I will be proved wrong when using it. I only got them yesterday, but due to work commitments I have not been able to play with the new TS55 and guide rails. Will have to wait until next weekend.

I just bought the three meter rail here in the States and it has the new splinter guard too. Like Les, I've not had time to use it yet so I can't comment of how well it works but here's a picture.

For me, I think the new transparent splinterguards will be better. I always find myself nudging the rail so the line is exposed, then nudging it back a little so the splintergiuard edge is over the middle of my lines. With the transparent ones I will see the line coming and save a little time setting up.

But I think the other features of the new splinterguard (as mentioned by Justin) will be equal if not more important improvements over the old black splinterguards.

Good point Anthony. It may well be the case when I use mine soon for the first time. Are the spare ones sold at the mo the new type? Also, which type is included in the FS-SYS/2 kit?

Hi Les, Some shops might still ahev the old ones available. I know we have a few here still. I might drop them in the specials section since they are the last of their kind.

The FS-SYS/2 kits we have are still the black version. The last new ones of these we received were with black splinterguards. But am happy to swap them over for transparent if preferred.

Rather than discuss on the forum, PM or email me if you need anything.

No problem. I expect in the very-near future all that will be available will be the transparent version.

Please tell me that is a typo?!

Is that for a special carbon-fibre version?

not a typo mistake, that figure of $641 is the correct RRP.
you can verify it by checking out the festool.com.au website.

Oh I believe you... I just don't want to

I'm busy trying to figure out how to rip down a 2400 sheet with a 1400 rail (kidding).

Wow, that converts to $535 US dallors! In the US I just bought the 3000 mm rail for $287 USD with free shipping, that is $344 AUD.
