Thank you VEK Tools - Kapex on the way
Having played with the Kapex at the Woodwork Show and with Festool being very unfestool-like and pricing reasonably, I figured that this was one tool I had to have. Not really, but anyway. The deposit has been paid and I am waiting for the eagle to land.
For the Sydney guys, I can certainly recommend VEK Tools for Festool. A good indication for me as to who I'm dealing with is whether the retailer also services and repairs tools. If they can repair them, its only logical that they know how they work.
I got my Domi there as well and must say the guys are good to talk to.
Come on August.

There on the shelves here (UK), would love to take one back with me to Japan, but my luggage is already at the max maybe next year eh.
I'd say goodbye to my old makita anyday for a Kapex

Not on the shelves here yet, but soon.
I didn't think they would be that much better than my Makita and in all honesty its not chalk and cheese, but better they are.
IMHO, what it does offer is an ease of adjustment that I think is fantastic. The quality of the cut is also exceptional. I thought they were going to be priced at around $3,000. At that price I think I would pass.
What I am really surprised with is the fact that chippies are apparently buying them. That I cant fathom.
Don't worry Bryan, there's still the courier option.

Not a Festool user, but I've had the occasional drool over a few of their products.
Just for info, the latest Furniture and Cabinetmaking magazine has a test on the Kapex KS 120. Glowing report.
Conclusion: "…some real original thinking and innovative design; All the functions … are very well thought-out and easy to use. Laser set up is excellent too. In all, Festool have a real winner on their hands …"
£982 in UK, which works out to be around $2,300.
Some more drooling is in order.

For a change it appears that we are getting a pretty good deal here in Oz.
Based on exchange rates, I expected it to be over $2,500 when it was first released. I doubt that I would have touched the machine at the show if it was priced at that level.
BTW, I've not heard of that magazine. Where is it published?

It's a Brit magazine published by GMC Publications. I first subscribed about 4 months or so ago. Quite happy with it, and will renew the subscription after the initial 12 months.
BTW, I'm as green as those little button thingys on the machine.

Kapex 120 first impressions
Got my Kapex 120 last week (mid August 2007) and used it quite a lot over the weekend. In a nutshell, what a gem. I looked extensively into 8", 10" and 12" Bosch, Dewalt and Makita units and they are really not a patch on the Kapex.
While Bosch, Dewalt and Makita have shifted manufacturing to China, Korea, Taiwan and Malaysia, Festool remains true to form and still makes all their units in Germany - and it shows. The build quality, precision, tactility, materials of construction and versatility make it a stand out and I was pleasantly surprised to see Australian pricing at ~$1800 ..... not ~$2500 as I was expecting.
The laser guide is superb with micron perfect cuts at all angles and in all configurations. I had 2 roof carpenters working on my renovation on the same day and both couldn't get their hands off the unit ...... needless to say I think Festool will be getting 2 more orders from them !
"Buy cheap, buy twice, buy the best and ***k the price" ..... 10/10 ....... VERY VERY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!!!

Still waiting
Here in the Netherlands: I've ordered the Kapex last April and I still haven't got it. I know it's in our country, but there seem to be not enough of them. So, I guess, the pro's get theirs first and then losers like me .
Poor me. In the meantime I keep up with stories and examples from you guys. Keep them coming!

They should have been available in Holland in May (and in Belgium in April). (I live near the border, and the places I buy most of my tools are in Holland, where I work). I didn't see any in the stores 'till June, (some dealers had the sides of the box displayed, so they sold at least one...) Right before the holidays they had two at the dealer where I buy most of my festool accessories ( link ). During the holidays they had ten (one in "shop in shop", nine stockpiled at the entrance of which there are six left (last week). It is VERY tempting to get one every time I go there, but there are a few other similar priced tools I need more, and I promised my dad (we run a small construction company together) I wouldn't spend as much money on tools as I have been doing lately...

German factory was burned down
Well, I got a message from my supplier: the delay was caused by a big fire in the German factory...
I never heard of that, but anyway, they promised that deliveries will be made in the first week of September. I can't wait for it because so far I'm getting fed up with my Mannesmann saw (yeah, I know, I know...) which hardly ever makes the angles I ask it to do.
Frank-Jan: 1088 euro costs mine, including VAT.
