Hi! all contributors to this thread.

I have now received a replacement TKS 80 S/S table saw from Festool.

Contact was made with the service Dept and they gave clarification to the various issues.

. Firstly, the thermal overload senses the temp of the field coil primarily for the purpose of heavy duty use. It will shut down the machine until
the temp returns to normal operating temperature.

. My understanding is the circuit breaker on the D/E is a recent addition installed at the behest of the state regulator. There does not seem to be any RCM label on the machine.

. The fault on the S/S turned out to be a manufacture error with the Motor. A spring on one of the brush holders had jammed out of the holder and protruded sufficiently to 'nick' the Armature coil.
I was assured that this was a rare incident with their machines.
Festool designers have chosen to use a brushed motor rather than brushless. This may be because of cost but long term brushes need to be replaced; IMO brushless would be quieter and more efficient.

. Finally, I rate the after sales service 8/10 primarily because the replacement S/S was returned minus a set of wheels.
They have assured me a set will follow ASAP.

Here is a graph of Voltage and current in the period of S/S failure.

The circled area is the period I was using the saw.

When the current is positive I am pulling current from the grid and when it goes negative I am exporting current to the grid.( I have solar panels).
The peak pull down was about 12 Amps on the occasion.

Interesting, it looks boringly normal. I assume you got the same saw back or did they replace it?
I did look at the dust extractors on the floor at Total Tools on Monday when I was there and the Festool machines have no warning stickers or rating labels on the outlet sockets so I guess the warnings are hidden in the owner's handbooks. Handbooks that are seldom read and the fine details easily forgotten.

Yes, machine was replaced. The only label I could find was 1200W under the cover of the auxiliary GPO.
Episode is still not over because I left the sliding table fittings on the S/S. They cannot find them so I will have to wait
and see if they can source them here or elsewhere.
I have run the replacement saw in ripping mode it is performing well.
