Hi Justin,

What can be confirmed is that the new Multi-JetStream format is the new standard supplied with Festool sanders and abrasives. If it is something you want, check with your dealer that that is what you will receive.

Multi-JetStream is a new pad and abrasive hole format that introduces an additional row of holes in the pad and abrasives to further improve dust particle travel across the paper, with an additional airflow stream. For those who don't already know, JetStream design of the Festool pads pushed air through the centre hole across the pad into the suction holes around the pad. This means particles don't waste their time getting off the pad and pig-tail squiggles caused by course particles are significantly reduces because of the rapid removal of particles. Its the trapped particles on the abrasive surface that cause pig-tails, not the abrasive surface itself.

Multi-Jetstream takes this principal to the next level again - even less change of pig-tails on your work when sanding.

The new Multi-JetStream abrasives are compatible with old JetStream pads but the additional holes have no effect, and old JetStream abrasives you have at hand still fit the new Multi-JetStream sander pads, but again not advantage. The advantage comes when you use Multi-JetStream abrasives and pads together.

I suspect what really happens is that dust gathers in the centre of the pad and won't move and the new hole prevents this. It is the dust which gets marooned (for want of a better term) in the centre that would cause issues and leave marks. Good thinking from Festool once again.

so the new jigsaw will be called the carvex and you will be able to carve with it.
i am sure it will be a nice feature but do i really need it?

it becomes available in germany in one month, not sure when it becomes available down ere.......

As it turns out, this is not correct, you aren't going to be able to carve with the new Carvex jigsaw. Festool USA's CEO set the record straight on the FOG forum.

thanks brice for confirming that the new carvex jigsaw does not carve. it is actually a reference to skiing. carving down a hill around tight corners. well, you learn something new everyday..........

heres a few photos of the new jigsaws and the new drills with inbuilt L.E.D. light and a proper stainless steel belt clip.

Thanks for posting those Justin. I was seriously thinking about getting the current C12, but can afford to wait for that nice C15 with a light.....

The new tools look cool, but I don't have any ETA as yet. But as a fan of the D handle format drills like the CDD and C12, I can't wait (but will) to get a C15 because I expect it will weigh no more than a C12 and have more power and advantages of the EC-TEC Mark II motor.

Thanks Anthony - yup, I still prefer the D handle drills as well. The current C12 has amazing grunt for its size (enough to put many larger drills to shame), but that C15 is truly drool-worthy

In general (and I know this is difficult to answer....) do Festool pretty much release new products around the world simultaneously, i.e. within a few months? Or does Australia get the new products 12 months or more after the US? I appreciate that you have to clear existing stock, but presumably you would know about upcoming products long before we do and alter your stock levels accordingly?

It is difficult to answer this particularly because things are not necessarily consistent.

Generally speaking: Australia get tools released at a similar time as Europe. But there have been instances of the US getting a tool before us (The OF2200 being the example that comes to mind). But generally we get tools before the US. And in some cases, the US gets them years later or not at all.

Sometimes us dealers know of upcoming tools before the general public, but there are confidentiality considerations, which includes delivery dates. Now this information (confidential or not) can also be inconsistent, because sometimes a product is delivered prior to ETA, and sometimes it can be late many months.

Marketing realities mean that dates or supplies are sometimes suppressed to help dealers clear out current models. This is not a Festool specific comment, but how things happen across lots product markets. And look out for deals on products to be discontinued.

Sometimes dealers know nothing until the product is launched and we can stock up. Which is exciting although unexpected.

More specific to these tools, I have some information but cannot provide an ETA until it is more accurately communicated, and Festool give an okay to release the information. But when those planets align, you bet we get very excited and talk about it.

i believe the jigsaws become available in europe in march 2010. so i assume the new drills will become available at the same time.
i also just read that the new jigsaw "might" have an inbuilt L.E.D. strobe light which helps you see the blade/workpiece better as its cutting.
i cant confirm that info at this stage, i will be able to in april 2010!

I'm not too bothered about specific dates, but just TRY to make sure we get the new C15 before June (my birthday)......OK?

Thanks for the heads up on new tools. I'm not that bothered about exactly when they will arrive, but its useful to know that something new is 'inbound'. I'm the guy who normally buys tools moments before they are superseded by something better and cheaper, so I need all the help I can get

I wonder if the woodworking market will ever reach the heights of the digital camera or car markets, where people routinely post fake photoshopped pics of upcoming products??
