    Default Unexpected problem with TS55

So after a bit of selling off of hobby stuff not used and saving a bit i decided to satisfy my Festdrool.....pin pulled on the new TS55...dual 1400 rail kit and parallel guides. I wont tell u what i paid lest my wife ever finds out...EVER (i do like the look of the systainer but i wouldn't want to live in it)

Anyway, got it all home. I knew i wouldn't be playing properly but gave it a few test plunges (unpowered) and the action was horrible...all notchy, in fact, it would stick on the return leaving the blade exposed. Never used one before so thought i'd give the shop a call Northern Abrasives and tools in Brooky. They wanted me to take it back in....i did and they confirmed it wasn't right and swapped it out. However, i tested the new one and it wasn;t much better (although wasn't sticking).....third one seemed good. The guys at Northern were brilliant, no problem there. Just was expecting a bit more from Festool, considering the reputation. I'm sure everything will be good going forward, just a bit surprised. Anyone else has this??

What you describe is bad ( I have a few Festool items) and although I never had anything like this with the tools I own, this points to poor quality control. I was always led to believe that Festool never ever build to a price, but rather to a level of quality.
You have every reason to feel rather disappointed.

    Hello 02zi3

We are very disappointed to hear of your issue with the TS 55 especially after this being your first introduction to Festool products

We have been in contact with Northern Abrasives this morning and dicussed the issue, we have both not heard this before. We have arranged the return of the saw to us for inspection, we will inform Northern Abrasives of our findings. Should you like feedback regarding the saw feel free to contact Darren at Northern Abrasives or please contact us direct at Festool

While discussing the TS 55 with Northern Abrasive we also took the opportunity to forward your positive feedback regarding their service

Ok great guys.....thanks for the follow up. This is really turning out to be a great forum...glad i came across it. Is there anyway i can get my saw checked out officially to ensure everything is cool.. I would say that the plunge is still not super smooth....but i'm probably being a little bit over zealous. It is just a tool, but i definitely had built up some super high expectations. I just want to be sure all is ok.

On a positive note.......just broke down my first sheet of bunnies CD ply....didn't need the off cut splinter doodah...cuts appear clean as a whistle both sides....so i guess that means the blade is nicely balanced

You might take a while to get use to the plunge action if you have not used that type of saw before. It does make it easy to cut openings in boards (and floors) although you may still need another saw to finish the cuts neatly.

The supplied blade when using the guide, leaves a clean cut on ply and melamine boards.

G'day O2zi3, I have this saw and all the accessories and a few other Festool items as well. I'm currently breaking down sheet goods for cupboards in my shed and it is so so good for this. Your problem does not sound good but I'm sure you will get it sorted out.

I have nothing but good things to say about their stuff. (Other than the addiction to them) I guess you may be in my club, "worried that the wife will sell my tools for what she thinks I paid for them" if I shuffle off first

    Cheers, Ian

Default Specifics of the TS 55R problem

    Hi all,
I came across some additional info on the specifics of the problem with the TSSSR that has apparently caused a product recall in the US:
New Festool Saw May Be Recalled - Manufacturers, Coring And Cutting, Saws - Tools of the Trade

It seems the issue is to do with a dog/dentent arrangement in the saw for performing blade changes, and this can intermittently get stuck causing the blade to not retract at the end of a cut, as well as a plunge action that does not feel smooth.

Just wondering if any of the Festool people on the forum can shed any light on the status for Australian customers? It seems Festool Australia is still selling the saws, and that the problem exists on the Australian 240V models as well (based on this thread).
Is there any plan to address this in the Australian market?

(Note, I almost purchased one last week but am now holding off after finding out about this issue. I will live with my old circular saw for the moment).

Hi all, New to forum and woodworking, but festool is making it look easy, I agree Northern Abrasives is great, service is hard to come by these days. some places wont even tell you a price until your ready to pay, go figure. I am currently awaiting my CMS, a lot to pay for a weekend worker, but hey, quality and the system is hard to beat. already built a wardrobe with drawers (1st time) using track saw & Domino (and yes it is as good as it looks).
