Thread: Using FESTOOL power drills.

I am a Festool fan boy and just couldn’t justify the cost and lack of performance of their larger drills.

I purchased a new hammer drill and impact driver from Makita last week for 700ish and they both have significantly more torque than the Festool equivalents and a 5 year warranty.

I will continue to try and upgrade all my tools to Festool however in this case it just didnt make sense.

I do however have the CXS for smaller work and cabinets and it is pretty sweet.

Who sells festool in Australia, I don't recall see any of the major tool shops carrying them? I'm interested in their sanders, apparently very good quality.

Heaps of resellers of festool around just not mitre10 or bunnings. Festool.com.au themselves do free shipping so I’ve picked up a bit from there but Sydney tools and gasweld and others have the festool tool stands to show things

I’ve picked up the RO150 and more recently the bs75. Fantastic dust extraction for all of their tools including sanders

I’ve had a makita hammer impact brushless kit and has been fantastic but it’s about 10 yrs old. The impact driver lacks a little torque compared to modern replacements but I’m not drilling into large thick hardwood pieces often so doesn’t bother me a great deal. The only complaint I guess is my batteries one of them is flakey so the tools skips in power drive so I’ll have to replace it.

I have considered replacing them both as I have more festool tools than makita these days and prefer to keep batteries and charger forms consistent so this set grabbed my attention

This battery set is interchangeable with my tracksaw so thatl work nicely. The CXS festool drill grabbed my attention for the interchangeable heads for more cabinet work I have coming up but the set I’ve linked seems to do this with enough fine control it covers most of not all of my drilling needs.

I've known someone that got one of their cordless drills - they took it back as it was gutless. They make good sanders, vacs & the dominoes. the saws could do with more power and I hate their cordless jigsaw (cuts out every 50 or so mm) Their router is ok soft start is nice - not the most powerful but adequate.

As delb's says, heaps of Festool resellers around. Find the most convenient one to you, make an appointment, and go in and try out whatever tools you may be interested in. They know; once you try, you buy - be warned! And some of their demonstrators really know how to handle those tools.

If you are considering Festool sanders, also have a look at Mirka - same $$$'s and quality; some say better balance.

I’ve heard in Q3 this year the new CXS 18v is being released in Aus. I’m holding out for that one so the battery systems the same as my other cordless festool gear

Interesting, Delbs: will wait and watch.

One of the attractions of the CXS 10.8 is its "cuteness" - small size, but not quite a "mini drill", excellent balance and light weight at 0.9 kgs.

Festools european site says that the new CXS 18 volt weighs in at 1.4 kgs - a hefty 55% increase over the 10.8 volt model.

But it is lighter than the existing C.18 drill which scales 1.8 kgs. Time will tell.

That’s a decent increase. Compared to my makitas that I’ve had for years I think it will still be an upgrade and still great for cabinet work. It’s also fully compatible with the drill heads of the 10.8v version apparently
