Alan Williams at Trend Open Days
Anyone interested in chatting to Alan (who can count Princes and Presidents as collectors of his works) should head to Trend Timbers on Friday 17th or Saturday 18th March.
Alan will be there demonstrating his skills on the Bandsaw and will be happy to chat to fellow devotees of the craft.
He will have several finished pieces on hand too.
To refresh your memory, this is a pic of a Nautilus by Alan - one of his signature pieces.Artisans On The Hilll - Gallery, Manning Valley Hideaway Accommodation & Workshops.

This is bloody ridiculous.
A few weeks ago I looked at the picture of Alan below and thought "ah ok, geez he's been pretty quiet about that" but that would be fairly typically modest of him.
Ya see, my landlord's father, Alan Williams, is the guy in that pic. I've been doing a very large amount of landscaping work with Alan over the last year, and he would have been here on at least 40 occasions for a day's work.
So today over lunch I said "So your the BS Box king eh?"
"Ah, no, not really. I had some plans to do one in Jacaranda some years ago, but never got roundtuit"
"Eh? You didn't recently do an open day at Trend Timbers?"
"No, why?"
"Ummm, are you sure?"
"Well, yes I am actually!"
By this time I was kacking myself laughing.
"So not only do you have a dopple-ganger, you have the same name and the same hobby!" (I know Alan is pretty big on his Band saw, see)
Now that I look a little closer I can see some slight dissimilarities, but I tell you what.........the two look so similar that I just accepted that the pic below was Alan. Just now I showed my partner, and she just accepted that it was Alan, although she remarked that the pic must have been taken a few years ago.
It's not often that we come across our own dopple-ganger, and I would say NEVER with the same name, rarely in the same country, and probably NEVER with the same hobby.
That makes it the most extraordinary coincidence I've ever known!

Looks like you will have to bring "your Alan" along to the Sydney Woodshow so he can have a chat to "the other Alan" and compare notes!
Alan plans to come along with me to the Sydney Woodshow this year and demo on the Trend Timbers stand.
Not sure which guy in the pic you took to be Alan Williams (the guy on the left or right of the pic), but just for clarification - here is another pic of Alan.

In this pic taken a couple of years ago, he is cutting an 11 drawer Nautilus box. Only finished this box early this year and one of the workshop participants took it home for his wife.....Artisans On The Hilll - Gallery, Manning Valley Hideaway Accommodation & Workshops.
