Antique Knife Box Construction?
Recently retired, I'm getting into woodworking as a hobby. I've always admired the antique mahogany knife boxes from the 18th century, and would love to eventually build one.
Does anyone know of plans for such a box, or have any experience building them? They are generally about 13 in. (35mm) high and 10 in. (25mm) wide and deep, with shaped openings inside for holding silverware (not just knives).
Come to think of it, are the front faces of these really created with a bandsaw? Most of what I've seen have nowhere near the clearance to carve the 8 in. high face.
