Nice one Tony. Interesting bit of cedar, are those cracks that you have filled and if so what did you use?

Thank you to everyone for your cheers.

Barrie, this piece of Red Cedar is root stock, the challenge is to work around and with the naturally occuring voids. I use shellac as the filler.

A question, what is the alternative gap filler?

Ah yes, the root, now I see!

Good question Tony. I've used wax on small cracks, the stick stuff you get the woodwork places, large cracks have me scratching the head. Try and work around them if possible. Sometimes just leave the holes as "features". Glue and sawdust also in very small cracks. Any other ideas would be welcome.

I've been doing "square" boxes lately, I'll put one up on the other box section later. Back to band sawn boxes next month.

While I appreciate the workmanship and skill Tony, I wonder whether a contrast between the lizard and the rock might have given a better effect. Not advocating staining etc., just a thought for future pieces.

Of course the tongue makes it

Wasn't there some suggestion that you were moving and couldn't get into your shed. Did you do this one on the dining room table

Pray tell how one can create a contrast between the carved object and the box (podium) when it is carved from one block of timber? And yes, as the skink (aka Blue Tongue Lizard) is a bottom dweller, anything will help!

The change of residential address is about to be effected, thanks to the 1st Home Buyer's Grant and the abscence of Stamp Duty fee, as a consequence of the domino effect two homes were sold which in turn facilitated the sale of our home. If all goes to plan we will be renting in the Bundanoon area within 4-6 weeks, whilst we build the new workshop and home!

I appreciate your point, just a suggestion and not a criticism. But possibly the use of a different finish, or additional application, to one section might just achieve that shading.
