the boxes look great....the fotos are a bit small, they only have to be under 100kb, around 60kb is a good size, yours are around 2kb

Yeah, I'm a novice at the picture thing. Any tips on reducing them to the right size? How do you get two in under 100 kb? I only have microsoft picture manager and the compress feature has limited options. Here is a bigger one I resized by using a percentage function.

    Much better.

That's cedar? Western Red? Way different to the stuff I'm currently playing with... I've been told it's "Lebanese Cedar."
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

they have to be under 100kb each....not all five ( or 4 or 3 or 2) added together under 100kb

btw......that is some awesome work you've got...really like the red felt colour contrast to the wood......

Sorry forgot your question. It came from a lump of 'north coast' red cedar. I have a few bits that vary in intensity of colour, and in the way they colour up after oiling. The other little box in the first post is also local red cedar.

    Default Graphics program

    Barrie,
If you want a good graphics program go to this web site -

    http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

The program is Paint.NET - It's free and is as good as expensive programs such as Adobe Photoshop. Developed by PHD students at Washington Uni and originally funded by Microsoft as a replacement for the old Paint program in Windows.

Depending on your system, you may also need to download .NET Framework 2.0

You can download both in one download, but it is 49MB.

With this program, when you go to save a jpg picture (that's the most comon format on the web) you get a window where you can move a slider to adjust the size of the file. That way you know exactly how big each file you save will be.

    Regards
    Don

    Default Great boxes

PS - you've made some great boxes here. Well done.

Cedar must be one of the best timbers to use for bandsaw boxes - so easy to work and polishes up beautifully.

    Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the URL for the Paint program, I've got lots of room on my hard drive! And thanks for the compliments. I like the band saw boxes but I am still a bit new at it. I must confess to Stirlo (is that right?) that its not felt in the drawers it is flocking powder, very easy to use.

I like the cedar, too. There are always lumps of the stuff at the timber yards that they throw away. I have a fair bit of silky oak as well (the handles on the ones in the photo), and there is lots of camphor laurel up here (its a weed). I bought some Tassie Myrtle (nice grain) and orange osage (what a colour!) at the wood show in Brisbane, dont know what to do with them yet!

I'm not allowed to use polyurethranes so all the boxes are finished with organoil, and some times a little tung oil/beeswax mixture that I make myself.

I'd like to see other boxes as the thread has been a bit quiet lately, just thought I'd kick it off again.

    regards,

    Barrie
