Hey Tim, thats brilliant, love the carved top and the hinged lid. Yours is certainly inspired by Allans box, rather than mine being just R&D ( rippoff and duplicate). Love it.
I Like the finish and am Guessing you refer to the renowned chair maker Maloof ? Is it an oil or a poly finish.
At a quick glance the Lumberjocks site looks quite inteseting, never seen it up until now.

The finish is a product from Rockler that uses the recipe from Maloof. Step 1 is an oil/poly mix and step 2 is an oil/wax mix.

I added a little extra shine with some bowling alley wax.
BTW enjoy your wonderful summer down under. Up here in Boston the weather has been a balmy -16C each morning this week.
