    Default A Couple Pair of Twins

    Hi Everyone

    I've been a little slow on getting these done, medical stuff, but a few boxes of simple design - LKV - patterns. Needed to use up a bit more of the 'beetle pine' I have. Started by making six blocks and getting them cut -- back in the warm weather.. got them sanded from 100g to 320g, focused on a couple pair of the the blocks;

    1. the first pair are the Pod pattern from LKV , modified a bit. Dropped the center drawer depth down on the original to add a drawer pull instead of the lower finger pull. The small left is 5"w x 4"H x 3 3/4" D, and the right one is an inch longer (6") .

    Both have Mahogany pulls, and are finished with 4 coats of BLO and waxed. The drawer interiors are flocked, one in a light blue and the other in what was to be an Olive green but got the wrong shade.

    2. the second pair are the Peace Doves from LKV , These are 8"w x 4"h x 3 1/2" d and 9 3/4"w 4 1/2"h x 3 1/2" d. Both are finished with a Colonial Maple stain on the carcass and a Fruitwood stain on the drawers. I think it gives a nice easy contrast and suits the pattern. The drawer pulls are light Cedar -. Final finish is 4 coats of clear shellac and a waxing.

    Interiors; a blue felt for the smaller box - needs a very light cutting at a points on the edges (bit of fuzz) ., The larger Peace Dove - flocked the interior with a chocolate brown - twice - .. used an acrylic paint for the glue / adhesive - don't know what happened but managed to get a speckling thru the flocking. Can't see it in normal light. !! Might have to go it again with a good scraping out. Someday .

    thanks

    Default bandsaw boxes

    HI GLEN,
    Nice series of boxes in regards to the glitter you mentioned on the last box i had the same issues with one of mine, to solve the problem i went to a very thick artists acrilic and it fixed the problem the flock seemed to hang on much better, again nice work.
    regards john.

    great boxes and I concur with John. I have lately been using a thick acrylic mixed with some woodwork glue. Time will dictate if this is any better.

    Lovely boxes and a nice simple design. I really like the finish and the contrast to the handles.

    The only thing that I would change is not to use the bright colours in the draws. I think that it draws the eye away from the form of the boxes. Personal choice
    My ambition is to grow old disgracefully. So far my ywife recons that I'm doing quite well! John.

    Hi, thanks for the input, as mentioned I will do a scraping on the brown and redo that that with a thicker coat of acrylic. A while ago I bought 10 packs of flocking of various color realizing I'd have to use the acrylic for a glue base.

    Some of them are brighter than what I ordered. They'll get used in boxes for the younger members of the family, grt-nieces , and the guys wanted the darker colors.

    Love the bottom opening on the first pair Glen, there are so many different ways to cut out the drawers on band sawn boxes, it's great that we don't have to conform to any strict guidelines and are only limited by our own imagination.
