Default A Couple More Pine Beetle Boxes

G'Day All, Just a couple more boxes to share. The original patterns are from L.K. Venture's second book.

The first one is Twister, a 4 drawer box and is 9 1/2" h x 4 1/2" w and 4" d. The timber I used was 2x6 and I was amazed that the 4 pieces, all 8ft, had a butterfly pattern - minus the milling space . The cutting went very well with a 3/16" blade.

I couldn't work on them for a while and the drawer fronts and backs took in some moisture , just like this guy.. I allowed a decent thickness for them but lost some of it, did flatten them but sanding during glue up time caused a problem. The gray/blue pine sands terribly if a little moist - from anything.

The first pic shows the right side after a sanding with 100g, looks rather plain and gray/blue in color. Second pic after more sanding then a finish of 2 coats of BLO. Sure did pop out the grain. Finishing I used a spray can lacquer - clear, first time using this, did create some problems but after 5 / 6 coats I finally was getting the knack of it..

    and the front,

Still some dribbles to work down !! , waxing and a green flocking.

The second box - Undertow - 11 1/2 l x 5" h X 4" d. The original pattern calls for a 14" L, so a little squeeze on the computer made it fit the block. The finish is water based poly, did a little for the grain pattern but kind of preserved the gray.

The next 2 pics are under a different light and brings out the brownish red of the pine, the last pic show the drawer cavities, they'll be done in a light moss green with a ring insert for the 'top' drawer - when materials arrive.

As with the first box this will get a waxing. Yes that's a beetle (larva) hole on top, the carcass was still there after I cut.. decided not to fill.

hope you enjoyed, comments always welcome

    Sorry about the flash,

I thought I lucked out back in April, came across her first book on Amazon, ordered it at a decent price. Then a few delays, then no book. One other one was selling for $186.00 - what !!!! , must be a collectors item now.
