    Default Lidded boxes

    Hi

Two lidded boxes, lids retained in place by use of magnets.

Timber is Beech, I am not particularly happy with the end results. I used Tung Oil which darken the white Beech more than I cared for.

With Beech perhaps there is a better alternative finish - any suggestions?

    Tony..they look good.
Different Strokes...........on light coloured woods I use finger/rag/wipe on...diluted white shellac.
As many coats as I reckon.
When cured, I apply Traditional wax and buff.
    Minimal darkening.

    Hi Tony,

They look good to me, nice work as usual!

I agree with Watson, light shellac and Neil's Traditional wax for minimal colour change. Other waxes might work also.

This bit should be completely ignored, although I know that despite this warning, you will read it through to the very end.

Very nice, I have had light timber darken more than I wanted from the finish in the past, it just takes the 1% off being totally happy with what you wanted to acheive. If you still want an oil finish, try Kunos Oil, it seems to be lighter in colour than other oils.

thanks to Watson & Paulphot for their tips, settling into a new home / workshop is keeping me away from box making, hopefully the resumption will happen real soon!

Nice work, Tony, as always. As the others said, blonde shellac as a sanding sealer, followed by Kunos oil, seems to help maintain the original colour.
