Default Light & Dark three drawer bandsawn box

    Hi

Just finished another b.s. box from the batch of Tasmanian Sassafras, Black Heart.

You may notice there is no back on this box, instead drawer stops are used to stop them flopping out.

Hope you like the design? Light & Dark.jpg

A fresh approach. Hardley looks like a bandsawn box at all but I like it.

    John,

Thank you for your comments. You got me to thinking what is the best definition of a "bandsawn box".

Leaving aside the need to define what is a "box" for the purpose of this discussion, a bandsawn box is in my view is a box which could not be made but by use of a bandsaw.

For example it is unlikely the machinery ordinarily used in the making of a conventional e.g. a rectangular shaped work, could be used to make an organically shaped box such as those often described as a bandsawn box.

What does everyone else think of this definition?

I did not really think about a definition of a bandsawn box. Yours is all flat sides and right angles so is not the normal image of a bandsawn box. If I had to define it I would have to say ''made with a bandsaw''.
One question. If you had a definition to start with would you have built that one?
    Regards

The design was restricted to the size of timber block and an attempt to maximize the available width and depth.

It seems most of what is available of Tassie Sassafras, is less than 10~12 cm square. Not sure why larger stock is not available?

    Great looking box.

While not what I would think of when it comes to a bandsawbox, it has me pondering the steps and order of cuts.

That's different. Not seen the open one before and it looks good in that wood. Well done.
