One more for the year
Hi all, This box was a lesson in how not to apply CA glue. You really can’t hide or stain or cover it up. Still, reasonably pleased with the result. It measures 9” x 3” x2 ½” and is made of walnut stained pine, with a clear gloss polyurethane finish. Oh well, it’s all good practice.
Seasons greeting to all, Harry

Nice style to that!!
No doubt about CA! It can be the most infuriating stuphph to use.

That is a nice looking box. Sort of chineese dragon shape.
I have only made 3 bs boxes and used ca on one. I won't be using it again. It really speeds up the process but the joints dont look good. Well your lesson confirms mine. Ill keep the ca for dodgy turning blanks.
Regards
John

Nice work, like the design.
you talk about spill issues to do with super glue, i find that if you sprinkle some very fine saw dust on the liquid and then let it harden and then sand, it is easier to reduce it's effect. this works for me as i use Tung oil finish, not sure about your poly finish?Tony Ward

Bandsawn boxes
I have tried to view these photos. I was logged in but "you are not authorized to .....", appeared. This happens regularly and has spoilt my forum experience. Don't know how else to broach this problem. I am a woodworked and not a computer boffin. Would like to know what I am doing wrong.

Hi Bruce. This might be related to the recent forum upgrade. Some guys were reporting being logged off automatically after a short time. There are a lot of problems with IE9. Firefox is recommended by Neil for this site.
When you log in, are you ticking the 'Remember Me' box?

What Humphrey said, tick the Remember Me box as I've circled in red in the following image and you shouldn't have anymore problems.

now that the techo problems are mended, well done. Please do not be offended when i say it has a slightly funereal appearance

Well done, Torchwood, beautiful work.
What glue will you use in future, and how will you prevent leakage and damage ? I understand PVA glue also stuff up a finish.regards,

Fine Woodworking Mag, April 2013 @ page 34 discussed this very problem.
their research suggests that the area surrounding the glue area should be coated in a silicone-free wax. The glue can then be wiped off or knifed off (when dried) followed by a light sanding using 220 grit
have not had the opportunity to test this theory, interested in your results ?Tony Ward
