I bought the OV sherwood oscilating spindle sander from timbercon at the canberra show. I got it along with all spindles on it's stand for $359.00 same as the smaller one advertised in the WR.

Looks like your Barry but it is orange.
If you have any Triton gear at least it will match.

If your looking for a budget one Byobi OSS500 works really nice

The table is fixed so it will not tile, I have used mine for 3 years and it is still running. $99 US at local hardware store. Dust collection is great on it.

    Smile Vertical oscillating sander

    Congratulations on your purchase.
They are a great machine for inside and contour sanding. I make bandsawn "Alphabet Jewellery Boxes" in Swamp Kauri and could not be without such a machine. My one has several spindles amongst which is a 6mm one on which I use 18mm paint roller with a 6mm centre. I secure a half sheet of 220 grit paper, with masking tape, onto the roller and do most of my sanding with that. The beauty of the paint roller is that the wool outside surface gives a marginally soft surface to sand with rather than the hard rubber formers that come with the machine. The consumables become cheap also. I pay .80 cents for a sheet of sandpaper and about $7.00 for a 16mm hard sleeve thus there is no contest.

    Cheers.

also would a lambs wool one polish. have not seen an oscilating spindle sander working,

    Default Vertcal oscillating sander

    Hi PTC,
As I have not yet figured out how to put a picture on the web I will try to describe it.
The paper I use is Norton Champagne Magnum A275 and 220 grit. I buy it in 100 sheet packs which makes it economic. The half sheet measures 140mm X 230mm and the roller I use is 170mm long. I use 20mm masking tape to tape the end of the paper to the roller with the tape 10mm on to the roller and 10mm onto the paper. I roll it tightly and then secure the top and bottom of the paper to the roller with masking tape. I find that after some use the paper wears or tears a little and I then remove the top and bottom tape and unroll it one turn, cut of the damaged paper and resecure with masking tape. You can get three "goes" out of one piece of paper.
The machine I have is one of those Taiwanese ones that has a different brand on it everywhere you see them. Carbatec has them in their catalogue as OVS-T. I have not tried to polish with the paint roller but I daresay it would work. Good luck with your purchase.

    The sander arrived ok,
It's all black with bright orange insert around spindle no Brand name just "made in china " the Keys (spanners are to thick to fit on shaft for changing the spindles will have to be ground down)
    Only 2 spindles. 1" and 2" I was told that it had 3. 1 1/4" missing.!!
    Supplier's comments :
Will order one from China. should be here around December.
(so do not keep phoneing me about it) or pack it up and send it back and i will give you a refund.
He checked his other stock and they only had 2 spindles.
    It works ok,
    Wife thinks it SEXY!
Will post pic of it later.

Default I used my Drill press as a sander also

Hi Guys I used my Ryobi Drill press with a flexible sanding disc to smooth the outside of a wooden bowl my friends son gave to me which was a little bit rough around the edges and then slapped on a polishing pad and gave it a quick polish

It came up nicely and I use it to put my make up and jewlery in
don't know if that helps but worked a treat
    Cheers Biotechy2k
