    Default Oscilating Spindle Sander

    Hi guys,
I saw in this quarters wood review that sherwood have an oscilating spindle sander for just over 300 bucks. It is a bench mounted one.
what do you guys use to sand the curves on the boxes? I have the 25 peice sanding kit a bench sander and i was thinking that one of these oscilating sander would be a good move. But i am not sure if the small one will work well or should i spend allot more money and get the large free standing one.

I have one that I bought from Gasweld for just over $300.00 which is a free standing model. It came with three spindles and I find it great for sanding curves.

The only problem you are quoting prices from the states that don't really relate to the prices of tools here in Australia. The problem is by the time our suppliers buy from the states then add freight, profit margin and GST (Goods and Services Tax.) the prices here are double what you pay in the states, besides the point we have pay approx. $1.35au to buy $1.00usd.

    Hi Barry_White,
When you say it is free standing do you mean it sits on top of the bench or the floor? the one i was looking at sits on top of a bench.

Any pictures of the sanders you are refering to.

I am interested in getting one of these and your experience would be a great help.

Our power supply over here is 240volts 50 cycles. I have bought stuff from the states but stay away from power tools. There are too many hassles from the electricity point of view.

Where we have to be careful also if it goes over about $500 au we are up for import duties and GST on top of the price + the freight.

Thank you by the way for your interest and searching out that info and welcome to the forum. Just watch out for the snide twisted Aussie humour that could come your way and don't take anything to serious that might be said by some of us.

Here's a review of the Sherwood model:
    http://www.onlinetoolreviews.com/rev...woodOS-100.htm

Note that they do now come with a pressed metal stand (not shown in review), like the one shown in Barry's post.
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

Wink From the inside of the drawer.

Obtaining a fine finish, when sanding the inside of drawers, can be achieved by using a flexible drive shaft fitted with a chuck, used in conjunction of either a wood, rubber or inflatable sanding drum. A range of these tools are available commerically or can be shop made.

Be aware that the consumables are the real cost items.

Don't be to quick to dispose of your used linisher sanding belts, often they can be cut to size.

    Talking

    Hi all,

Well i bought home my new toy last night from Canberra and i didn't want to let it get frightened of the dark so i set him up in his new home next to his big brother the bandsaw and the suck of the shed DC and he is happy.
I bought the OV sherwood oscilating spindle sander from timbercon at the canberra show. I got it along with all spindles on it's stand for $359.00 same as the smaller one advertised in the WR.

Looks like your Barry but it is orange.
