Default My second - Oval Merbau & Camphor Laurel Box

Just finished my second little bandsawn box, and my first project for 2013.
210mm long x 125mm high x 100mm deep, made from Merbau and Camphor Laurel and finished in WOP/wax. The drawer pull is also laminated Merbau/Camphor Laurel and the lining panels are self-adhesive felt stuck onto 0.5mm cardboard: -

I had to include a pair of runners on the bottom of the drawer to keep it properly in position: -

I appreciate the comment, John. Thanks.

Good timing, too. I was just about to add a better indoor pic of the front - the first outdoor one looked terrible, , like the poly had been rubbed through on the body front.

Well done, a nice blend of timbers, very pleasing to the eye!

Very neat and tidy, also different. Is it your own design?

My first box was copied, so I thought I'd better design my own this time.
Started with the basic oval shape, then drew a pair of human feet and distorted/stylised them until they were barely recognisable.
Could have turned out pretty ugly, but I got away with it.

Thanks all for the kind words. Helps motivate me to start on my next. Just finished drawing up the design. Gotta finish another job before I can start on it though.

Love the design and the extended feet/legs. Nice choice of material and contrast.

    Thanks Glenn.

I was a bit nervous about this design, and wasn't sure if it really looked OK, or if it was just me. Sometimes it's hard to be objective with your own projects.
I really appreciate everyone's positive comments. Gives me some confidence to try more more unusual designs.
First time I've worked with Merbau, too. Wasn't too sure about the yellow flecking at first, but it definitely grows on you. Adds a bit of interest. Love it now. I've got a huge chunk of Merbau, so it'll be featured for a few projects.
