    Default Temple box

Hi all, thought I would try and make a box out of a turned piece of wood. I had to count to see if all my fingers were still there after cutting the pieces for the hidden drawer on the band saw. Cheers Harry

    Default brilliant!

Brilliant job there Harry. I love the shape of the box and the contrasting colours are very effective.

Can I ask a couple of questions of you:

    • What is the size of box?
    • what have done to achieve the dark colour on the drawers?

    Cheers.

    Gday Ray,
The size of the box is 5 1/2" x 2 3/4". The wood is pine and the drawers have just been stained walnut, with black flocking inside, Harry

Great, an original design ~ outstanding!

We may know how to make a bandsawn box, however this bandsawn box is extraordinary requiring an explanation as to the sequence, step by step please!

Great imagination, what was the inspiration?

As both a turner and a box maker I too would love a WIP. Not necessarily with photos, there's pleanty on your OP, but the sequence and how/when you cut/turned it??

I really like the idea and your box and I have some nice cherry that would look good me-thinks?

Thanks Sculptured Box. The inspiration came from a lid handle on a lidded bowl l turned.
The sequence of cuts was - Turn shape, cut off bottom slice, cut off back slice, cut out large drawer, then the hidden drawer as normal.

Excellent work , I can see why you checked the finger tips - like the way you get the hidden drawers into your work.

Just wondering whether this style of box should be called a "turned bandsawn" box?

    just me thinking aloud ?

Looks great. Haven't seen anything like this before, combining turning and bandsawn box making. Simon.
