    Default They never made it!

I tried to enter these boxes in the challenge but the e-mails appear to have gone missing. Tony has asked me to post them here.

They were done in a bit of a rush and they are a bit rough. They are finished with tung oil after wet and drying to 1200 grit, then EEE and Traditional wax. I would normally let them cure for a longer period (3 weeks ) after the initial charging with oil, but this lot only had a few days.

    1. Tower box, blackheart sassafras carcass, cedar drawer fronts, osage orange drawer pulls. My design, a bit unbalanced I think, might do some more work on it.

    2. Aurora, mango carcass, red cedar drawer pulls. One of Lois Ventura's designs.

    3. Firewater, red cedar carcass, mango drawer fronts. Drawers push out (holes in the back), design by David Thiel

    4. Aurora, red cedar carcass, silky oak drawer pulls.

I sort of woke up about the challenge after it started and had to gallop things along. I suppose I'll have another go next year, its a bit of fun, but I will allow myself more time and get verification on any e-mails submitted (always wise after the event!).

Sorry, Tony, nothing very original in that lot.

Anyway good luck to those in the comp, there are some nice items there.

    Regards,

    Barrie

Barrie, I beg to differ. The first one looks more natural than the ones with 2 drawers.

    Default fair go!

    Hi,

I know the rules exist and they should be followed, but for some reason Barrie's entries didn't get to the finish line according to the rules, despite his best effort!

May I suggest that provided if it is accepted that Barrie did all in his power to get his entries to the finish line as the rules require, then please, please could his work be included in this year's comp?

The call is now, please support this suggestion, to do so you need to indicate your support in this thread NOW!

    G'day Barrie

Can you please confirm that the extra entries were sent to [email protected]

You sent your first entry on the 29th April, then on the 30th April you sent one stating that you should be in the Experienced not Novice as first indicated, then on the 4th May you sent in,

Please withdraw my entry to the box challenge. On re=reading the rules it doesnt
    qualify.

Sorry about that. I'll try and get one in befoe the 15th.
So in conclusion, it may have got a bit confusing.

Before we can go any further, can you please confirm that the entries that you sent on the 14th were in fact sent to [email protected] as we definitely have no record of them ever arriving here.
    Cheers

    DJ

    G'day Dj,

I am not put out at all, I was joining in for a bit of fun and to contribute, so dont be too concerned. It is no big deal, no need to fuss.

For the record my e-mail log shows that the e-mails went at 11.35 am, 4.32 pm, 4.37 pm, 4.47 pm and 7.39 pm on the 14th (the last was a size correction). No typos in the address and none of these bounced so they went somewhere, probably into bigponds maw. It has happened before to me when I was sending and receiving a lot of e-mails in a conference job. One of life's little mysteries.

I will still be making boxes next year (if I am still here and dementia permitting) and I'll be happy to join in again then.

I am happy to leave it at that.

My congratulations to the contributors for their fine work and I'll be voting.

    Kind regards,

    Barrie

    Kind regards

    Hi Pat and wheelinround,

Thanks for the comments, glad you like the first one. I think this one was better balanced(started it before the challenge!).

    Kind regards,

    Barrie

No worries Barrie, thank you for confirming the emails, in future we may have to set up a confirmation system so that we know that all entries have been received.

ie, you send entry, we send confirmation that we've received said entry, but if you don't receive said confirmation email, then you'd need to PM said contact on WWF to rectify problem
    Cheers

    Hi Dj,

    Sounds like a good idea.

I'll be at the woodshow in Brisbane on Saturday, might check out the Forum lounge.
