    Default Owl & Fruit

This is classed as a Beginner’s design.
But with a bit of imagination it can be enhanced.
The cross hatching on the pineapple was made with a concrete cutting wheel. And the marks in the center of the squares by tapping a flat tipped screw driver to make x’s.
The leaves were contoured with a small drum sander, running it back and forth the length of each leaf.
( I chuck various shaping tools into a Flex Shaft attached to a stationary motor but a hand held drill would usually suffice)
    Materials:
Western red cedar for the fruit, Poplar for the leaves, Owl’s body is Lacewood, beak and feet are Pau Amorella (Yellowheart). face is Basswood & the eyes, Ebony. Highlight in the eyes is a tiny dowel, or a drop of white paint would do.

Generallly Beginners/Intermediate/Advanced/Expert refers to the degree of scrolling difficulty. If you look at that design you'll see that there was not a lot of intricate sawing .
The contouring and shaping adds to the finished project but is not really required to produce an acceptable piece.
There are many simpler projects but that one could not be classified as other than one for novices.

    Here is another "starter type"

Cutting is not difficult. Extra value is added by sanding, shaping and contouring.
BTW he is dressed for the coming season here. Just 2-3 months from first snowfall.
This same design has been used for "Aviator" with flying helmet/goggles and Beach Bum with T shirt ,shades& Ball cap. And a simple Bare Bear.
    It measures 10 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 ( 26.7 X 19 cm)

Was also wondering why the owl set up housekeeping inside the pineapple? lol The bear's dressed just right for here.... it's still winter and cold in the mornings.
One day I'll have to try intarsia... you guys keep posting photos......
