Wanted: 1 3/4" BSP Tap
I have an aluminium fuel tank in my boat and the filler neck is deformed. The thread is 1 3/4" BSP.
I was going to use a steel pipe fitting to reform the thread, but they don't exist in 1 3/4"
Does anyone have any idea what sot of industry would use a 1 3/4" Tap? I am hoping to find a business somewhere that has one that i can pay to use for 5 minutes. I almost got lucky at a fuel tank fabricator this morning but his tap turned out to be 1 1/2"
I'm in Brisbane. Thanks

Well well so there is such a thread... BSP Whitworth Pipe Thread DIN ISO 228 (DIN 259) Be surprised if you can find anyone with a tap though... Such an odd ball size..
If someone had a suitable lathe they could zip you up a steel thread pretty quick.. I could easily do it if you get stuck and post it down...

BSP Taps are oversized - Chances are it is actually a BSP tap. However, if it isn't then it is probabably an NPT or NPS. I will have a look around today and see if I can find something that matches your description.

.RC. is a legend!
so after much hunting around i could not find a 1 3/4" BSP pipe fitting or tap in Brisbane. So I took .RC. up on his offer and he sent me this:
what a piece of work!
I then milled 4 slots in the sides of the thread to make my "tap" and finally tacked an old socket in the top to allow me to connect a sliding T handle.
crossed my fingers and gave it a go
it took a lot of pressure to turn but eventually cut a nice new thread. stoked!
Thanks again richard for your help. It is much appreciated.
If anyone ever needs to clean up a similar thread the tool is available for loan for the cost of return postage.
