Here's a chuck: https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Pr...stockCode=C725
You'd need to fit a backplate. (edit) ... which they also list.

Thanks fir the effort, I checked it out - $550 not including the backplate is a little steep. However, I probably will take a D16 from them. Any other options?

With the timeline, not many options. Could try Moyles to see if he has a second hander, he sells the chinese chucks too. If you see a d1-6 4 jaw scroll with independent adjustment in 10 to 12" range give a yell out!

Bob, I missed where you said 2nd hand. Cheap, fast and good is... well, optimistic. The one in Ray's link isn't sure if it's self centering or independent. I'm guessing the latter. Sounds too cheap for a big scroll chuck. I'd be interested to know what you turn up. I might be in the market for a chuck myself soon. I'm also interested in why you specified 4 jaw SC. Is that just because they hold more securely than a 3 jaw?

I think I will be giving them a call Ray. Ta! Pretty cheap chucks by the way. Victoria now seems like the hub of engineering in Oz...10 years ago I could walk into 10 different joints in Sydney and pick up what I wanted now it has gone south.

Yup, independent bryan - fingers too quick for my brain. Had the same correction you made by another guy on the phone today. The thing is going on the lathe of a guy that is doing some work for me.

Well that should open up your options a bit.
PS: Asset's website sucks.

Hi Bob,
The description says "self centering", and then under features it says "independant moving jaws"?
I suspect that it's actually independant as Bryan suggested... I wonder what "semi-steel" means...
From the website...

Thanks Boys! Picked the chuck up this morning and the backplate up just then. You saved me a bit of money - I thought I'd be out $600. Got the chuck for $280 and the BP for $120. Chuck is second hand and 10" but is in good nick and the BP is new. Easier to hagle when you get some other prices - TA!
