20mm 4 flute end mill, used
What is something like this worth? I have no idea.
It's advertised at $21.
I'm spoiled with the prices offered by CTC Tools, so I'm totally lost.

I don't buy used because I have been burnt by the hardly used line. Better off buying new either through a store like CTC or ebay US.

Thanks Dave,
If I knew it was made by Suttons or P&N, I'd take the risk. I have a mate who is a tool sharpener.
From CTC Tools, I can buy a set for not much more.
I guess I was just thinking out aloud.

Hi Ken,
Brand and condition unknown, forget it. Buy a new one for half that.
I just restocked on 2 flute slot mills from CTC, average cost was less than $2 each.
Regards

So far, I am a big wrap for CTC Tools, having just purchased their ER 32 stuff. It looks great, although not tested yet!
However, when it comes to end mills, slot cutters etc, are they up to scratch for the hobbyist?
Is the steel used on par with locally made cutters? Have you bought and used their cutters?

Ken,
I have seldom purchased milling cutters locally and when I have they have been Sutton and P&N. Ebay, in both the US and the UK, has proven to be a good source for cutters.
Here are a couple of examples.
I decided I required a 1/2" ball nosed end mill for my plane project. I rang a local supplier and was quoted $68 for a standard length Sutton screwed shank cutter. I needed a long series cutter with a plain or Weldon shank. I paid $25.89 plus $7.32 shipping for a new Regal cutter made in Illinois. It arrived from the States in 8 days. I have purchased other tooling from this seller previously L and N ENTERPRISES items - Get great deals on TAPS, END MILLS items on eBay Stores!
This morning I won a new Hydra 30mm two flute slot drill on Ebay UK for a total of $25 including airmail. I was the only bidder.
There is a lot of high quality tooling out there. It's only a matter of knowing what you require and where to look for it. Most American slot drills and end mills do not have screwed shanks which can be advantageous when using ER collets. Conversely, English cutters mostly have screwed shanks, a reminder of the reign of the Clarkson chuck.
