Abandoned Workshop Take 2
On the second visit, it seems less abandoned than it did the first time, the site now has some kind of heritage listing, and the workshop is getting a little bit of use just doing site maintenance, probably nothing like the work they used to do maintaining the tobacco factory machinery.
Anyway, I got a chance to do a quick walk through, I plan to go back and spend a bit more time looking at a few bits and pieces in more detail, so if there is some machine that you would like more info on, let me know and I'll take some more detailed pictures.

Nice shop, nice gear.
For those that don't know, the machine that there's a brief look at, at 48seconds into the vid is a slotter. Sort of like a vertical shaper. For doing internal keyways, splines etc as well as external stuff.
thanks for posting the vid

Finally back home, (I don't like being away from the workshop for too long... )
The project (for those who are interested) was an artwork consisting of a network of 50 robotic origami flowers with ultrasonic sensor interaction. There is some information here .Airstrip | Art | Oribotics_[futurelab]
Aside from a few parts made on the mill, the more complex parts were 3d printed or laser cut at the Ars Electronica FabLab.
The electronics were pic based custom servo control boards, and purpose designed RS485 Network with an embedded Linux host computer doing the network control, so that all 50 robotic flowers could be controlled to make waves and similar effects.
The 3d printing process is interesting, I can see a lot of applications where it might be a handy tool to have..
