    Default Acute Tool Sharpening System

    Hi,
Has anyone purchased the Acute Tool Sharpening System device by Eccentric Engineering? It seems to be a good design to work with any bench grinder. The prices are very attractive.

I would tend to think that most hobbyist / engineers are a bit like you.Perhaps we are all waiting to see what others think of it.

I ave had a look for Internet photos or U tube videos of it actually sharpening a tool and can't find any readily available. That concerns me, almost as if somethings being held back.

Perhaps it is more like that something else is the critical bit and the manufacturer doesn't want a widespread video/internet release that sensitive information.

Also Eccentric Engineering seem to have gone to England to release the gadget.

If its halfway any good, you know will be making knock off copies and you can have a sub standard model in a couple of months.

Ramblings aside,I reckon its more like the old saying : "Don't be first and don't be last."

    Hi Graeme,
I don't think Eccentric Engrg are hiding anything. I rang Gary, the vendor, wanting to buy the drawings and the DVD which would be refundable if subsequently I purchased the full kit.
He said that the video is taking longer than he expected so he added my name to his list wanting the plans and video.

He added that he is now thinking of splitting the video into assembly, and individual chapters for sharpening each type of tool. This would make it easier for users to go to the exact topic they were interested in. He thinks the video will be too long otherwise. He intends to have all those videos on his website.

He said he attended a show in Bendigo last weekend and sold four units and took a number of orders for plans and video.

And I should add that he did not pressure me to pay for the plans and video now. In fact he thought it was better that i wait until the video is available.

Ha yes Gary has been busy with this but any of the Melbourne Society of Model Engineers will attest good things come to those who wait.

Don't get me wrong, I hope Eccentric Engineers do very well out of the unit.

Its just part of who I am to find out how well a product works and until there,s say something like a a Utube done on it, I won't know if its suitable for for the uses I may want it for.

Good on them for at least bringing out a kit for the DIY guys to assemble.

    Hi guys

I saw this thread the other day and justthought I'd let you know there's now a demovideo up on the Eccentric Engineering website about the toolsharpener.
It explains the principals of the system andhow it works, and I demonstrate itsharpening a lathe tool and a two flute slotdrill.

The only thing that's holding everything up at the moment is the DVD manual on how to build and use it.
That's taken way longer than I expected but I'm slowly getting there.

    Cheers
    Gary

Probably $44.00 or $275.00, plus your time and any tooling required additional to what you have.
