    They are really only meant for jobs with end thrust, like drilling. They usually have a tang.

    I don't believe they're hardened shafts, they're pretty cheap woodworking gear, if the reducing sleeves have any runout then that's not going to work for me. Appreciate the responses may have to look at a different way of holding the tapers.
