    Default Stell supplies

I get most of my steel from a couple of local engineering shops down at Aldinga/Seaford, they're happy to cut, sell shorter pieces, they're cheaper than steel suppliers and they will order in for me. What they don't have I usually get from Southern Steel Supplies if I'm in a hurry. Anything over 20/25mm in round solid is difficult to source. Machinery disposals in Cavan have some ally (not sure about solid round), but there is a lot of stuff out the back that may be worth a look through. Next time I go interstate I'll have to have a look at some salvage yards and bring some back, my stocks are almost depleted.

    Default Aldinga Steel and ELUD

Aldinga steel supplies in Seaford. It's a fabrication business but they sell by the metre to the public. Mostly RHS, anglr, flats, round and square in small sizes only, if he he hasn't got what you want he will get it in. Elud in Aldinga Beach is excellent. Another fabrication business who sells to the public, again mostly RHS, angle, flat, round and square in small sizes and he sells by the metre. If he hasn't got what you want he will get it in and sell it to you by the metre, nice bloke, very helpful. Most fabrication businesses will sell to the public, you just have to ask. If they utilise lathes then you can generally buy their smaller offcuts. Haven't tried in Adelaide, but that was certainly true in WA and QLD. Going to have to start looking around myself, I'm almost out. If you're after bright, good luck...

wanting BMS was why I started this thread..not rhs etc etc

As said above Interlloy has taken over the premises once occupied by Bohler and are doing the same thing...(as was told to me last tuesday by the despatch office when I picked up some flat BMS).

Also I have been getting limited sizes from Metal Corp...but Interlloy looks as tho its going to be my prefered source...the steel storage and cutting areas has'nt changed from when Bohler had it.

    Default 'Machining'?

I quite often ‘machine’ flats, rounds, squares and even RHS and round tube and pipe. Things like slots, bearing blocks, top slide mounting plates, ball turners, knurlers, tool holders, etc, etc.

I just tried Interlloy for some 50x6 CS1020 flat BMS but the thinnest they handle is 10mm. Ah well, back to the ring around.

Nope - referred me to Brice metals. I haven't rung them yet, I'll drop down there tomorrow to see what they have but my recollection is that they only carried RHS etc.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Brice is same as Southern Steel now.

Last time I rang Metalcorp to price some solid round, they didn't have it in the size, but offered to get a length in if I was prepared to wait.

Price wise they are pretty good.

Sometimes Norms Metals have odd stuff.

I try and get all my steel through Green Steel supplies in Hindmarsh. They stock or will get solids, do sheet metal as well as sections and will sell by the metre. Something like 50x6 should not be a problem for them.

You should try getting stuff from down in the south of the state. A lot of businesses still use the pony express for delivery's, I am sure. "That could be in in a week." Then you look at the prices. Not all are like this tho .
