    Default adelaide steel supplies

As Bohler Uddeholm have disappeared from SA, where do Adelaidians shop for their machining steel supplies?

Metal Corp on Grand Junction Rd only has limited sizes and stock.

Brighton Steel Supplies on Brighton Road has a good supply of round in 1020 and 1214 grades and in 304 and 316 stainless.

Senturion Steel - next to Paramount Brown have some stuff but not a lot in machining grades.

Green Steel near the soccer stadium at Hindmarsh have stainless and some BMS (but not a lot of the latter).

Surman Metals at Mawson Lakes have stainless (and ally, brass, bronze etc) but no BMS.

So sources of other than round machining steel are rapidly running out here it seems. I think the next time I go to race at Phillip Island I might come back with a tray full of steel stocks!

    bring some home for me....

Bohler (Vic) will accept orders but I expect that we have to pay freight as an extra...they still have a Sales Rep based here in Adelaide...but doesnt help much.

I knew of Green, Surmans and Brighton but not of Senturion...I'll keep that tucked away...if I remember where I put it.

just rang Global...only sell full lengths of steel under 50mm thick or dia...over that they will cut to length...so this keeps them out of my phone book for what I forsee I will need...ditto for Atlas ( they dont keep a lot of BMS in Adelaide anyway he said)

I once went to a place in Murray Bridge that said they kept most sizes of round in bright. They cut some large flat bar for me, don't know about cutting small stuff. I know it's a hike, but you might be up that way on a job or something. I think it may have been these guys: Southern Steel Supplies - South Australian Steel Supplies - Lonsdale - Willaston - Murray Bridge

The Lonsdale site has nothing in BMS, they concentrate on RHS, FMS and angle and sell full lengths (but will cut them).

If I want new then I use Metal Corp. But they have a limited range in round stock.

They can get it in if it's a full length.

Is there any particular item you need or is this a general thing, if the former it's likely that others in Adelaide might want to go shares in the purchase(s) so it ends up being a full length.

I'd certainly be ready to participate, I've just been told that after 40+ years in the one place my job is to be outsourced sometime in the next year so I'm building up steel stocks while I can ready, for forced retirement and possible penury.

These guys have a good range and will cut short or long lengths, of round bar and hollow bar, metric and imperial.
If anyone wants bar from the Murray Bridge branch, let me know the size and type and I can get a price for you. Pick up can be arranged for a weekend, A/H, or a courier organized to deliver if required.
