Adjustable Reamer on PVC Using WD-40 as lubricant.
Just wanted to share something that may already be known, apologies if this is common knowledge.
I bought an ~20mm adjustable reamer from H&F for a little project I'm working on where in need to ream out some bushes to a ~20.15mm from PVC. The bushes support/guide a telescopic light pole made from 20mm aluminium.
I found reaming by hand a bit tough as the plastic swarf would bind up and make it hard to turn the reamer.
So with a moment of inspiration I sprayed a little WD-40 as a trial, worked fantastically!
Reaming was much easier and the surface finish was absolutely flawless and super smooth. Looked like it was moulded.
Cheers
Justin

Thanks for the info. I wonder if WD40 would improve the finish when turning/boring PVC as well?

Well I had wondered that too!
I was busy making bushes but I will get some scrap PVC and see what happens.
Cheers

Is your camera kaput Justin?
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

water with a bit of dish washing detergent also works pretty well - you don't really want to be using that on your lathe though.

Well to be honest! I tried to get a picture but it was really hard to get a good picture of inside the bush that really showed how good it was.
I do agree though a picture would have been good. I will try again.
I have to get detailed pictures of my DRO system on my mill too.
Cheers
