Default Alternative to hiring a gas bottle

    Hi all,

Sick of paying rental on a gas bottle for my mig. I have taken the bottle back and closed the account.
Just wondering if anyone in this forum can recommend a place to buy one outright with gas etc.

I came across this on ebay, anyone else done it this way and have any feedback?

    Thanks

Take a look at this site http://www.speedgas.com.au/.

Gasweld stores sell it as well.

There are quite a few comments on this subject in the welding section, if that is of any help.

    Hi
I got Argon from speedgas when they started. They delivered and could not have been more helpful. A little less so now. Got migshield from national welding supplies. And a fantastic shop. I had CIG/BOC account for 20+ years but will buy what I need now. It takes a long time to empty..... And costs no more.

+1 for Speedgas via Gasweld. I surrendered my MIG rental bottle and bought an E argon/O2/CO2 mix and a D argon. It only takes a few years to be ahead for the casual welder.

Thanks for that. How much would I expect to pay for the outright ownership of the bottle plus the first fill of gas together roughly please?

I'm very casual so I'd probably want the smallest size bottle as when I sent my recent BOC bottle back It was I reckon over half full.... no money back for me though

As mentioned, this has been discussed extensively in the Welding subforum.

One option worth considering for MIG is CO2 - for the same size bottle, you get about twice the gas. Also, for a D size from Gasweld, a CO2 refill is $49 versus $99 for a MIG mix, so CO2 is effectively a quarter of the price. The catch is that you need a CO2 regulator (or an adaptor for the CO2 connection), CO2 has a fiercer arc, so good for penetration, but not so good for thin sheet, and the weld profile isn't as nice as with an Argon mix.

I think I'll stick with the mig mix for now as I'm technically still learning, but thanks for that info and for taking the time to help me out.

Think I'll go with the speedgas from Gasweld.

    Thanks heaps
    Guys
