Default aluminium cut to short lengths

    Hi all,

i'm building a cnc router using momus-design plans and require about 20 lengths of very short aluminium in various sizes.

does anybody know any business who cuts to length (say 250mm)?

i have tried vesly's in marrickville but they appear to be closed and their phone number is disconnected.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try Edcon Steel.
I bought some steel and aluminium from their Revesby store a while back also with a CNC build in mind. Lot's of different materials in stock and will cut to size.

wow guys, thanks for the super quick replies!

as per the plans, supplied in imperial:

    6063-t52 rectangular tube,

    6061-t6 square bar

    6061-t6 rectangle bar

    mostly 300mm, or 2.4m lengths.

capral, alcentre only supply full 6 metre or 4m lengths.

nobody else has stock! seems oz only carries 6060.

these peices are for the gantry of the cnc, all screwed or bolted together, no welding.

if anybody thinks 6060 would be a suitable alternatve then please advise.

8020 in seven hills has an aluminium cold saw with digital stop, they will accurately cut to within 0.1mm every time, makes me wish I had a digital stop.

Costs ~$1.50 per cut if its not his stock, he may have some flat bar ect. in stock.

There is also Ullrich aluminium in smithfield, but I dont think they'd cut to size maybe only in pieces so you can transport it, they do have an offcut bin so you might get lucky

A triton metal cut off saw will do it if anyone near you has one
or buy an aluminium cutting blade for a SCMS around $100 or a fine tooth blade for a band saw and make a jig.

From what I can find the 6061 is about 1/3 stronger than the 6060. For your project 6061 would be better.
