Need Aluminium Guitar Parts Made
Hi,
Hope someone can help me here.
I make lap steel guitars and also non pedal console steel guitars. I have had parts made out of aluminium in Canada and USA. Gets a bit expensive when shipping is added. I need some one that can make these and polish the aluminium to a high shine.
The parts are as follows:
A Keyhead with a brass nut (as it is called)
and a bridge with aluminium legs and round brass rod with string grooves put in using lathe
If you can help me and give me a reasonable price, I would order a few here and there on pretty regular basis.
I can also send measurements and diagrams
Regards
Billy

teleman,
A drawing with dimensions will attract far more attention, to your enquiry.
Have you seen these guitars?

I didnt put dimensions in because my parts will vary in size from time to time Ken.As I make a few different sized instruments. Basically shape of these parts will remain same. If someone is interested in making the types of parts, then I will supply my drawings and measurements. I am looking for someone reliable to make these and not someone that's going to "fart around the fountain."
I'm genuine and pay straight away but I cant afford to be stuffed around as I have orders for instruments. At present I have enough parts that I had made overseas in stock for next few instruments but apart from shipping from overseas being expensive, I would rather give my quids to an aussie.
I supply this guy with necks and guitar pickups. Check out his guitars.

Unfortunately he is not in a position to make the aluminium parts I need.Last edited by teleman; 17th June 2011 at 04:25 PM. Reason: adding link

Teleman, for some reason I can't see your pics. I might be interested. I have fooled around with guitars in the past. PM me some more details.

The following photos may show what I need better.
I also need round 5/8 " brass rods grooved for strings on lap steels.
The photo of the lap steel shows the round brass rod. Called a nut on guitars.
The photo of the stepped keyhead shows the keyhead that the guitar tuners are mounted on for console (table type) steel guitar models.
The photo of the bridges shows 2 steel guitar bridges. The rod's ends are place in holes going through the sides of the little aluminium block mounting legs. At the rear of the bridge is an angled piece of aluminium that has holes drilled so that strings go through the holes and then over the brass rod in the bridge.
The brass rods, will all have 3/8 inch string spacing with 1/8 space on each side of outside string grooves. I will need some with 6 string grooves and also some with 8 string grooves. For the bridges, all brass rods will have 8 string grooves.

I'm not in a position to help you with your parts unfortunately, but I (and I'm sure others here), would love to see some in progress pics of the whole guitar construction project if at all possible.
regards

Hi
I would be interested in have a look at making these parts.
I see that you custom the parts for each guitar but do you have some more details, drawing or sizing that you can send me so as I can narrow it down some more.

Will have drawings soon Russell. I'll do some tracings etc of all parts I need with measurements as I also need some flat aluminium plates shaped and polished as well. I know polishing can be a real pain but any parts made really do need to be highly polished . I have paid for polishing in the past and have had pieces sent back that have still been dull looking with scratches all over them.
Have been "Flat out like a one legged tap dancer" the last week and have a lot on over the next few days.
My apologies to all that have posted here for not replying soon.
