Right angle head taper?
I recently purchased a sine vice at auction and with it came a box of bits and pieces. One of the bits was a right angle head/drive for a milling machine. Unfortunately there's no manufacturer id/model number. It fits the standard Bridgeport quill diameter of 3 3/8". I was hoping it would be an R8 taper but I lucked out on that.
As I have no use for it i'd like to sell it probably on ebay as I have no idea what its worth but before that I want to identify the taper used by the right angle head. I've measured the tapers on the input and output of the head and from the measurements (and look) it appears that its a NT-30 taper.
However, according to Machine Tool Shanks (Tapers) the NT-30 uses a 1/2-13 thread and a BT-30 uses a M12 thread.
The issue however is that the thread for the input side draw bar and the short draw bar for the output side appears to be BSW 1/2" 12G.
Is this thread common in this series of taper? what should I list the taper as?
Regards, Christian

Hi Christian,
They are the same taper with different thread*, I have no idea what the correct name is for a 30 taper with a 1/2 BSW thread, but most of my arbors are threaded 1/2 BSW. You chould list it as both but mention that its a 1/2 BSW draw bar thread.

The british standard for the 30 taper no doubt used a bsw thread..
My right angle head is a Kondia make and it has a 1/2" BSW drawbar thread.
As for selling it....Probably a few here that would be interested and we have a for sale section )Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

Thanks for the replies. It definitely has the short parallel snout which is why I thought it was NT-30. The thread threw me.
BTW I also got several lathe chuck keys which i'll put in the for sale section if people are interested.
