arbor press and recycle yard pics
Theres a recycled building material and other stuff yard at Redhead (just south of Newcastle) I know the owner and his wife. Bruce is a bit of a hoader. We went down to their yard on Sat to see if he had anything of interest for our home reno come in since the last time we were there.
Now Bruce gets a lot of stuff in that he ends up not wanting to sell and unfortunatley a lot of it ends up deteriorating in the weather.
However he has a couple of arbor presses there atm. I think they are both of China origin. He has a price on one of them and his wife said she thought he wanted to sell them.(he wasn't there on Sat)
I've also included a few pics of the yard to give a bit of an idea of what its like.Theres bits of machinery sticking up out of the stuff all over. I saw at least 2 piles of old cast iron window sash weights. Dont know if the cast iron in them would be any good for machining, but its probably just rubbish.
If anyone is interested in either of the presses then give the yard a call - phone number in the last pic.

Nice press I think it is, in photo yard 1. I think the excavator, fork lift and Dozer with bucket are there to stay!!!!! That yard looks like a health hazard, move one thing and other stuff is likely to fall on you.

I think the press is just about stuffed, like most of the other gear there. There is a large bandsaw with wheels close to a metre in dia and a blade about 30mm wide just rusting away. At least 2 large belt sanders. Belt about 150 wide by several metres between the pulleys. The list just goes on. At least one bob cat buried along with 2 old toyota dyna trucks and a forklift. Theres a Tawny Frogmouth roosting in the big shed. I dont think it has to leave the shed at night to get a feed.

I haven't been in junk yard like that for a long while, and it is probably a good thing coz I couldn't help myself dragging home
cr@p form these places that I would use some day
The garbage tips were another good place to go shopping, trailer load in, and trailer load or rusty treasures out.
Making strawberry jam out of pig %$&* I used to call it

The owner would want to have good public liability insurance in this day and age...

Scrapyard finds
Anyone notice the item front and centre in pic 5? Could be one of the old portable radial engine compressors, now as rare as rockinhorse poo. (Has letters CBX 5 on it) Can't see enough of it to be sure. Some of the vintage machinery boys would be very interested. If it has the name of a US compressor firm on it, (CP, Ingersoll Rand etc,) it would be worth picking up if price is right, and advertising in old machine circles. On the wrong side of the country for me, but sure someone in the region needs it. Regards,

Yes it is an Ingersoll Rand radial compressor, no doubt ex-railways.... six cylinder radial engine, with 3 cylinders as a compressor and three cylinders as an engine..

Tah dah. and the prize goes to R.C.
I used to have one of the those. I bought it from my uncle along with a pressure pot grit blaster that he had made. He had fitted a real muffler to it in an effort to quieten it down a bit. (they originally had no mufflers at all , just a short stub of exhaust pipe straight off the head) It was still very noisy though. I ended up making a temporary housing for it from old insulated fridge doors which help a lot.
Geez it was a right B******d to start. I'm convinced it had a mind of its own. There was a sequence that I had to go through and even then somedays it would start on the 2nd or 3rd pull of the rope and other days it just wouldn't. No matter what you did.
I sold it after I had finished the job I bought it for. With no regrets either
